AI will rob companies of the best training tool they have: grunt work

#artificialintelligence

Deloitte has what it calls an "apprenticeship model." The international auditing and professional services firm hires thousands of entry level employees with the expectation that most of them will work hard, then leave after they've learned marketable skills. The organization--like many companies--looks like a pyramid, with many more employees at the bottom level than at the middle or top level. That structure makes sense when there's a lot of grunt work to do. In the process of auditing a company, for instance, Deloitte employees used to pick up to 100 contracts to review manually.

Artificial intelligence emerging as a force for good

#artificialintelligence

The topic of artificial intelligence is getting a wealth of attention this year, and a new study from PricewaterhouseCoopers finds that businesses and consumers are warming up to the potential benefits of AI. The PwC study "Bot.Me: A revolutionary partnership" looks at the global impact of AI and was compiled from insights from a 2017 event that gathered AI experts and a survey of 2,500 consumers and business leaders. The study looks at the collective views of AI in society today and its future implications. There are several highlights from this study, including the fact that AI is no longer viewed as primarily a corporate tool to increase automation (and thereby kill jobs). Instead, it is seen as emerging technology that can handle global challenges.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are a hot topic in the enterprise, with company leaders having high hopes for how they can be used to improve and automate business processes. In fact, some 54% of organizations are making substantial investments in AI today, and that number jumps to 63% in three years, according to our 2017 Global Digital IQ Survey. Analysis Half of millennials could be competing with robots for jobs

#artificialintelligence

About half of millennials looking for work are interested in jobs that carry a risk of automation, a new study suggests. The findings indicate the youngest and most educated generation in the American workforce isn't necessarily more robot-proof than older workers, who tend to be portrayed as the primary victims of automation. "Millennials show a considerable amount of interest in occupations that face a threat of automation," said Daniel Culbertson, an economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab, the research institute attached to the international job site, and the author of the report. "That gets lost when people talk about millennials being so highly educated and more interested in tech roles." A college degree doesn't protect against robot rivals because even well-paid, highly skilled jobs could shrink or vanish in the near future, he said. Recent graduates who land high salaries aren't impervious if their job is characterized by repetitive tasks and decisions.
