See Where Drones Are Most Popular in America

TIME - Tech

From movie shoots to search-and-rescue operations to your neighborhood park, drones are everywhere. This week, the Federal Aviation Administration released data revealing the exact whereabouts of the country's registered drones. Among the findings: Los Angeles County is the drone capital of America, with 12,250 registered drones. In second place is Arizona's Maricopa County, home to a number of Phoenix-based aerial photography companies. Looking at the data from a per capita perspective, Hinsdale County, Colorado wins out, with 5.2 drones for every 1,000 people.

Five to Try: Assassin's Creed shares its Identity, and Google makes Spaces for groups

PCWorld

Google's I/O developers conference this week mostly showed things coming in the future: Android N, Daydream VR, Project Tango, Google Home, and even a couple of chatty apps. But if you're looking for new things to do with your Android phone right now, just hit up the Play Store: we have five fresh apps and games hand-picked for your perusal. Assassin's Creed Identity is the adventure game series' closest mobile approximation of the open-world console experience, while Google's own Spaces app offers private rooms for pals to share links and ideas. Also noteworthy this week are the entertaining One Tap Tennis, the Cardboard-ready live music performances of Rhapsody VR, and the build-your-own-pop-star saga that is Britney Spears: American Dream. It's trimmed down in scope, but you still get a taste of the core Assassin's Creed experience in Identity.

Can 'Angry Birds' Be The Hit Movie Franchise Sony (SNE) Needs?

International Business Times

The ability of video games to entrance people for hours on end have made them the stars of Sony's balance sheet. Now, the company's embattled film studio is hoping a movie based on a mobile game can change the score at the box office. Rovio Entertainment's "Angry Birds" was released in 2009 and has since been downloaded more than 3 billion times, but seven years is a long time in the world of pop culture. Sony Pictures Entertainment hopes there's still enough magic in the video game to make it the foundation of a true and much-needed children's film franchise for a studio still reeling from a high-profile computer hacking incident and some tepid recent movies. But Sony's been on a hot streak with its console gaming business, and it may be a game-based film that has enough worldwide appeal to reset its box office performance.

What Machine Learning Can Bring to Corporate Recruiting

#artificialintelligence

As a business buzzword, "machine learning" doesn't measure up to some of its more popular cousins โ€“ big data and transformation being two of the standouts โ€“ but this may not be the case for much longer. What was once something only used by people working in fields like software engineering, statistical modeling, and artificial intelligence, is now being used in many more recognizable and consumable forms. Online services such as Google, Netflix, Amazon, and Spotify all use machine learning to improve the customer experience. For example, if you've been streaming Barry White all week, Spotify's "Discover Weekly" playlist will begin suggesting other similar artists. Listeners may start seeing Luther Vandross pop up in their playlist, for example.

Steelers experimenting with robot tackling dummies

#artificialintelligence

The Pittsburgh Steelers are testing out a smart dummy. A Mobile Virtual Player, a remote controlled robotic dummy, was introduced during Steelers workouts. The mobile dummies, developed at Dartmouth College, could aid in tackling development without the risk of players hitting each other. "The applications we are quickly finding are endless," coach Mike Tomlin told the team's official website. It runs at an appropriate football speed.

Human vs Technology- What we need to know?

#artificialintelligence

If you have ever watched the Terminator movie, then you have a good idea what this topic is discussing. The movie and other similar arts will reach a point when the technological advancement of man will outgrow him. Some people estimate that this could be as close as in the next thirty years. At that time, human beings will have become antiques. In the movies, the creators always present human beings being in conflict with the machines.

The Ghostbusters trashing is just another internet tantrum against change Laurie Penny

The Guardian

We live in a post-mainstream culture. As the way we consume books, movies and television changes, artists and directors no longer need to cater to a "universal" audience viewpoint. This means there is slightly less obligation to pander to what straight white men are supposed to want from culture. Not everyone is happy about that fact, and across the literary and cultural spectrum, tantrums are being thrown. This week the target is the new, all-female Ghostbusters.

Google I/O's biggest reveals: VR dreams, personalized AI, and chips that blow away Moore's Law

PCWorld

Google's finally interweaving the deep treasure troves of information it holds about the world at large and you, specifically. Google Assistant is a conversational digital assistant built around the company's strengths in deep learning and natural language recognition, summoned at an utterance of "Ok Google" to respond to any queries you may have. It can understand context depending on the topic at hand, too: Holding your camera at a famous sculpture and asking "Who designed this?" will get an answer, as will queries like "Show me his other movies" after asking something like "Who directed The Revenant?" Google Assistant will be able to play music playlists, file reminders, help you buy movie tickets, and a whole lot more. Interestingly, it doesn't appear to be a discrete app; instead, it appears tied to be baked right into Google-y gadgets, in what Google CEO Sundar Pichai calls "an ambient experience that extends across devices." Think of it as a supercharged version of Google Now, mixed with Amazon's Alexa.

Artificial Intelligence News: Artificial Intelligence News Issue 40

A trade worth an estimated 20 billion, the beauty industry continually grows at a rate of around 3 percent annually. Unfortunately, the industry merely survives in the digital age where some industries are booming. Hence, artificial intelligence is deemed as a key to unlock the exponential growth of this industry. A rtificial intelligence could one day scan the music videos we watch to come up with predictive music discovery options based on the emotions of the performer. Which means that A.I. will soon be able to recognize Bono's sad face and serve you more mopey Bono, or perhaps something more smiley.
