With 102 cameras, Metapixel can create photorealistic 3D models in 30 minutes

#artificialintelligence

Robbie Cooper, co-founder of Metapixel, has a vision. "I want fully animated, believable characters in a VR game or environment that react in a totally natural manner. To have that feeling of wanting to reach out and touch them because they're so real. That's how a VR world should be." He's not just dreaming about it: He and the Metapixel team are actually working towards making it possible.

Elon Musk: 'We Must Hack Our Brains or Be Destroyed by AI'

#artificialintelligence

Musk claims that, because artificial intelligence is coming, we have two choices. We either make ourselves symbiotically mandatory to the AI or we will basically be destroyed (or end up as pets, but he says that's the "benign scenario"). Check out how he says we have to go about it…direct cortical interface. Sounds like every DARPA business proposal I've read lately. In another clip, Musk also says with AI, we are "unleashing the demon".

Why AI Will Be Your Next Go-To Productivity Tool (If It Isn't Already)

#artificialintelligence

It sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie, but the truth is it's your inevitable reality. The rise of artificial intelligence, or AI, is poised to change the way we think of productivity. That's according to a new report from Accenture, which predicts that AI could boost productivity by up to 40 percent by 2035. Companies are already investing heavily in AI, and not just in the U.S. Put simply, AI is defined as the ability of a machine to mimic intelligent human behavior. It's essentially any sort of technology that is able to make sense of its environment and surroundings, and then act and react accordingly. One of the benefits AI will bring is taking care of mundane responsibilities so human employees can concentrate on others.

T-Mobile seen as top target following AT&T-Time Warner deal

#artificialintelligence

People pass by a T-Mobile store in the Brooklyn borough of New York June 4, 2015. NEW YORK T-Mobile US Inc is the likeliest acquisition target as media companies seek a wireless partner following AT&T Inc's proposed 85.4 billion takeover of Time Warner Inc, analysts said. AT&T announced the deal late on Saturday, stoking urgency in the telecoms and media sectors, where carriers facing a saturated wireless market are looking for content to attract mobile users and producers of shows and movies are seeking digital distribution. T-Mobile took most of the wireless industry's subscriber and revenue growth in the third quarter. Its strong balance sheet and fast-growing wireless business makes it an attractive target for a pay-TV or media company, analysts said.

Blade Runner--Autoencoded Whitney Museum of American Art

#artificialintelligence

The artist and computer scientist Terence Broad built an autoencoder, a type of artificial neural network, and showed it the classic science-fiction film Blade Runner (1982). He trained the autoencoder to remember every individual frame of the film and to reconstruct each one as a memory, on view here. In the original film, a bounty hunter hunts down androids that are so well engineered that they are indistinguishable from humans. Here, we face a similar challenge, as we trying to identify the original film within the AI's program's perception of it. Terence Broad, Blade Runner--Autoencoded, 2016 Advance tickets are required.

Alexa gives voice control to Logitech's Harmony Hub remote

Engadget

Alexa now (officially) works with Logitech's Harmony Hub, meaning it's a lot easier to get voice control over your home entertainment and automation devices. After you enable the Alexa skill on an Amazon Echo, Dot or other supported device, you'll be able to start and stop Harmony Activities, change channels and control devices using the AI assistant. Simple commands include "Alexa, turn on Netflix," or "Alexa, turn on my TV." You also get a certain amount of programmability, thanks to Logitech's Activities. If you say "Alexa, turn on my evening activity," the bot will trigger a prearranged sequence that can involve entertainment as well as home automation devices.

[Project] Rust language bindings for TensorFlow • /r/MachineLearning

@machinelearnbot

The reason why I'm pumped about it is that I do love myself good type systems because they obviate certain relationships and as someone jumping into learning Tensorflow, I think that seeing this relationships explicitly will be quite a boon.
