Some Like It Bot
Artificial intelligence has captured the rhythm of science fiction. For example, the script of a new science fiction short is the creation of a bot. Although the software provides the order of the word choices, the source material is human. It works by algorithm and it derives its poetic power from the words of human feeling. The results are surprisingly good and even funny, in spite of its mechanized origins.

Google announced that its Home smart speaker will be available for preorder starting immediately, and will ship on Nov. 4. The company also shared more details about how Home will work, and which apps and gadgets it will be compatible with. Google says Home's design was inspired by standard household items, like wine glasses. Home can also be customized by swapping out the base portion, which will be available in multiple colors. Google Home will support Spotify, Pandora, Google Play Music, and YouTube Music as well as a few other streaming services.
AI-powered voice-assistant Google Home costs 129

Like the Amazon Alexa platform, the voice-activated Google Home assistant will control connected home devices. But it also acts as a Chromecast that can stream and be used to control other Google casting devices with your voice.
X-CNN: Cross-modal Convolutional Neural Networks for Sparse Datasets • /r/MachineLearning
This paper makes a small modification to a standard CNN architecture to improve results with small datasets. This shows a good improvement on CIFAR10/100 when trained with 40% of the data (usually 2-6%). I wish the authors shared their code though. They specifically mention using keras, so it's cant be more than a few hundred lines of python.
Google launches two Pixel phones, the showcase for Google Assistant
Google has announced its new Pixel and Pixel XL phones, as expected, which will be powered by Google's new Google Assistant. Google launched the Pixel in both a standard as well as a jumbo size, the Pixel XL. But the 5-inch Pixel and 5.5-inch Pixel XL aren't noteworthy because of their hardware, but because of the software and services attached to them: not only will users be able to launch the interactive Google Assistant from their home buttons, but the phones will come with an unlimited amount of cloud storage for photos and videos at original quality --even 4K!--compliments of Google. The Pixel will cost 649 (or 27 per month) exclusively from Verizon. Google didn't provide a price for the Pixel XL.

Original work in deep learning • /r/MachineLearning
After some months reading about deep learning research paper, i feel that there are not many original works like in (bayesian learning, kernel learning). I mean there are many papers just improve something, or combine algorithms, appear a lot even if at Top-venues. What do your think about that? Sorry if i made something wrong.
Is SVD a good way to transform multiple one-hot encoded attributes into a vector representation? • /r/MachineLearning
I would guess not, unless you have many small one-hot layers that are correlated with each other. What does work is if you can get something similar to'word embeddings' e.g. from training a compressive autoencoder on as much unlabeled data as you can; either from each of the attributes separately or as a merged representation, depending on what data you have.
