What Does the Future of Mobile Marketing Look Like?

#artificialintelligence

The outcomes of the future are pretty uncertain eventualities. But yet, we as humans strive to predict future outcomes and scenarios in a variety of ways. For example the complete guesswork of choosing your lottery numbers, to the more logical science & technology based efforts of meteorologists predicting future weather patterns. Needless to say, human beings have an innate desire to analyze patterns and contemplate the unknown. When it comes to the future of the mobile marketing industry, things are a little more certain than next week's big numbers.

What will Artificial Intelligence mean for Journalism?

#artificialintelligence

The first wave of this symbiosis was news automation, where artificial intelligence systems generate written stories and alerts directly from data. The goal is not to displace journalists from their jobs -- it's about freeing up their time from labor-intensive tasks so they can do higher-order journalism. Following the direction set in motion by automation, the next evolution will be about leveraging smart tools that can help journalists augment their own writing. This means AI-powered interfaces capable of providing context to topics in real time and even optimizing a news report based on its dateline and subject matter. AI will help journalists do more investigative work by analyzing massive sets of data and pointing to relationships not easily visible to even the most experienced reporter.

Building an AP Stylebot With WNYC's John Keefe at Future Today

#artificialintelligence

Amy Webb's Future Today Summit hosted WNYC John Keefe at the 92nd Street Y in New York City to run build-a-bot workshops over the last two days. The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism's social journalism cohort is currently taking Jeremy Caplan's Future of News class and attended to get a closer look at bots, technology at the forefront of interaction between humans and artificial intelligence. Keefe's infrastructure was built using Botkit, Twilio, Google Sheets, and Wit.ai. In my case, I wanted to try building an AP Style bot. AP Style is a guide for news writing.

What is artificial intelligence? A three part definition ยท Simply Statistics

Editor's note: This is the first chapter of a book I'm working on called Demystifying Artificial Intelligence. The goal of the book is to demystify what modern AI is and does for a general audience. So something to smooth the transition between AI fiction and highly mathematical descriptions of deep learning. I'm developing the book over time - so if you buy the book on Leanpub know that there is only one chaper in there so far, but I'll be adding more over the next few weeks and you get free updates. The cover of the book was inspired by this amazing tweet by Twitter user @notajf. Feedback is welcome and encouraged!

What Product Breakthroughs Will Recent Advances in Deep Learning Enable?

Huffington Post - Tech news and opinion

What product breakthroughs will recent advances in deep learning enable? Deep learning techniques currently achieve state of the art performance in a multitude of problem domains (vision, audio, robotics, natural language processing, to name a few). Recent advances in Deep Learning also incorporate ideas from statistical learning [1,2], reinforcement learning (RL) [3], and numerical optimization. For a broad survey of the field, see [9,10]. In no particular order, here are some product categories made possible with today's deep learning techniques: customized data compression, compressive sensing, data-driven sensor calibration, offline AI, human-computer interaction, gaming, artistic assistants, unstructured data mining, voice synthesis.

'Power Rangers' Trailer Reveals Bryan Cranston's Zordon And The Megazord [VIDEO]

International Business Times

It's not just the Rangers who are looking a little different these days. The newest "Power Rangers" trailer is here, and it shows off more footage from the superhero flick. Longtime fans will be interested in the appearance of Zordon. In the original, he appeared as a big, floating face above the Rangers.

Review: Yuneec Breeze 4K

WIRED

The camera market has long been segmented into three basic categories: Cameras for professionals, models for the so-called "serious hobbyists," and models for the newcomer. From DSLRs to action cams and point-and-shoots, most cameras are squarely aimed at one of these three markets. The market for aerial photography (aka drones with real cameras on them) is about 150 years younger, and therefore somewhat less segmented. Up until now, there have been only two categories: Professional drones and hobbyist drones. Automated flight modes make it possible to get good quality video and photos without the learning curve of more expensive drones.

Could VR be used to secretly fulfil bizarre fetishes?

Daily Mail - Science & tech

While some people are happy with regular sex, others have sexual fantasies and fetishes they yearn to fulfil. But some fetishes are not realistically attainable, and people are left having to use their imagination. Experts believe virtual reality may be the way forward, and could allow people with bizarre fetishes to achieve their desires from the privacy of their own home. Sex with unobtainable things like aliens, for example, is not a new concept. 'People have always had sexual fantasies engaging with notions of "otherness" and that which we cannot have or are realistically unattainable,' Trudy Barber, a lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Portsmouth, told MailOnline. 'A wish to have sex with aliens is very prevalent in lots of science fiction stories such as in the film Galaxy Quest or the classic seductive green Orion "slave-girl" of early Star Trek fame.'

Nvidia Shield and the surprising resurgence of Android TV

PCWorld

The situation for Android TV looked grim 15 month ago. Google had just released a new version of its Chromecast streaming dongle, which relies on a phone, tablet, or laptop to control what's playing on the TV. At the time, Mario Queiroz, Google's vice president of product management, suggested that this mode of viewing was key to the future of television. Meanwhile, Android TV, Google's other operating system for televisions and set-top boxes, seemed lost. Google apps and features that had shipped on other platforms were no-shows on Android TV, and the company didn't even bother announcing the retail launch of Xiaomi's Mi Box, last year's only new Android TV streaming box.
