A Machine Learning Approach for Evaluating Creative Artifacts
Shrivastava, Disha, CG, Saneem Ahmed, Laha, Anirban, Sankaranarayanan, Karthik
Much work has been done in understanding human creativity and defining measures to evaluate creativity. This is necessary mainly for the reason of having an objective and automatic way of quantifying creative artifacts. In this work, we propose a regression-based learning framework which takes into account quantitatively the essential criteria for creativity like novelty, influence, value and unexpectedness. As it is often the case with most creative domains, there is no clear ground truth available for creativity. Our proposed learning framework is applicable to all creative domains; yet we evaluate it on a dataset of movies created from IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes due to availability of audience and critic scores, which can be used as proxy ground truth labels for creativity. We report promising results and observations from our experiments in the following ways : 1) Correlation of creative criteria with critic scores, 2) Improvement in movie rating prediction with inclusion of various creative criteria, and 3) Identification of creative movies.
The Nine AI Minds You Don't Know, But Should Follow ASAP
Mark Minevich is the principle founder of Going Global Ventures and venture partner of GVA Capital in Silicon Valley. While the public is becoming aware of the possibilities of artificial intelligence, I've been evangelizing, researching and working with it for years. As a fellow of the U.S. Council on Competitiveness, a senior advisor to the United Nations Office for Project Services, and a member of both the World Artificial Intelligence Organization and B20, I've been researching AI (and sharing what I learn) for years. Although AI buzz typically surrounds statements from famous minds like Stephen Hawking or Elon Musk – both of whom rightfully worry about granting sentience to machines that control our way of life -- there are plenty of worthy conversations being had on the subject. AI also represents cybersecurity's next evolution, both as a threat and a solution.
George R. Lawrence took photos of US with first 'drone'
Shortly after the turn of the 20th century, a pioneering photographer who had created his own panoramic lens put together what could be described as the world's first drone. With this innovative creation he captured incredible images of American cities from thousands of feet in the air. George R. Lawrence used a system of kites outfitted with a 49-pound camera to show a bird's-eye view of San Francisco, Chicago and New York City - among other cities and towns - in a way that they had never been seen before. He called his invention the Lawrence Captive Airship. However, during Lawrence's first attempt at aerial photography his balloon snapped free from the platform carrying him.
The Artificial Activist Investor (AAI)
In the past, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was constantly present in our lives - but only in the entertainment media. Most of us were shaped by TV series like The Jetsons (Rosie), Futurama (Bender) or Star Trek – The Next Generation (Data) or influenced by films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still (Gort), Forbidden Planet (Robby the Robot), 2001: A Space Odyssey (HAL 9000), WarGames (WOPR), The Terminator (Skynet/Terminator), Aliens (Bishop), A.I. (David), I, Robot (Sonny) - not to forget The Matrix or R2-D2 and C-3PO from Star Wars. And the book readers among us might know Colossus by D. F. Jones and the so called robot series by the inventor of the Three Laws of Robotics, Isaac Asimov. Obviously, people have always been fascinated about this theme. Without any doubt, all these books, films and TV series have left their footprints about AI in our minds. Most likely many, if not all, scientists working on AI have received their enthusiasm from it.

There are critical questions surrounding AI, and Yampolskiy, founder and director of Cybersecurity Lab, is delving into the dark side of it.

"This is the age of The Hunger Games; of the Star Wars movies being fronted by a female lead; of Wonder Woman utterly demolishing its box office rivals. "In 2017 there shouldn't be anything major about a TV series changing from a male lead to a female one. O'Hara also points out that leading women are selling big at the box office - and film companies aren't there to address gender equality, they're there to make a profit. Even for supposed male films, the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, a superhero and a sci-fi film, (the audience) was something like 47% female.

"War for the Planet of the Apes" took down "Spider-Man: Homecoming" at the North American box office, opening with an estimated $56.5 million in ticket sales. But director Matt Reeves' "War for the Planet of the Apes" pulled away thanks to strong reviews for the third installment of the rebooted "Apes" franchise. Five of the top six at the box office ("Apes," ''Homecoming," ''Baby Driver," ''The Big Sick" and "Wonder Woman") boast Rotten Tomatoes rankings of 92 or better, and the sixth ("Despicable Me 3") was largely received as a solid enough family release. Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to comScore.
An Artificial 'Alien' Intelligence Is Heading Towards Us At Breakneck Speeds – Disclose.tv
It's a frightening thought, but there are many experts in the field of Alien visitation and space exploration who believe that the earth will be visited by a form of Alien Intelligence that is vastly superior to that of it's own. This seems to be something that all who have studied it agree upon even if they can't pin point exactly when it will happen. Some think it will be in 50 years while others claim it will happen in actually 20 instead. In any case, there is concern that this from of Alien Intelligence could be a potential threat to man kind. Yes, at first this AI could seem quite harmless, but there are predictions that once the AI starts to study the earth and its inhabitants, this could all change.
