The Impact of Machine Learning - Hot Topic at TechIgnite - ITChronicles
Machine Learning is one of the hottest topics on the program at TechIgnite, a two day conference presented by IEEE Computer Society. The event is being held in Burlingame, CA on March 21 and 22, 2017. Will your next co-worker be a machine? Can a machine do a better job than you can in recommending a movie? Machine learning is having an enormous impact on every aspect of life, making it a very important topic of discussion at this event.
Applications of AI in Niche and Emerging Areas โ Hacker Noon
There is no denying the fact that Artificial Intelligence is the breakthrough technology of recent times. The machines have come a long way from assisting humans in mechanical operations to performing smarter tasks using cognitive intelligence. Every day, we are coming across interesting applications of AI. The ability of Deep Learning algorithms to learn and predict efficiently has opened the doors of possibilities. Nowadays, AI is impacting many other areas as well.
The Next Five Game of Thrones Chapters Have Been "Leaked" by an AI
Warning: This post is dark and full of spoilers for the extended A Song of Ice and Fire book series on which the hit HBO show Game of Thrones is based. More than six years have passed since the release of the last book in George R.R. Martin's beloved A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series, and no one actually knows when the next installment, the penultimate Winds of Winter, will be completed. Fans are now in the midst of a doubly dire wait as 2019 may be the soonest we get any new content regarding the fates of our favorite (or most despised) characters in Westeros. This wait was unacceptable to superfan and software engineer Zack Thoutt. He decided to use the knowledge gained from the artificial intelligence (AI) course he took with Udacity to build a recurrent neural network that could learn from Martin's previous five books and compile five brand-new chapters.
Introducing the Yahoo News Ranked Multi-label Corpus, a Novel Dataset to Improve Multilabel Learning
Most content-based websites, like Yahoo News, HuffPost, or any given news site, organize their stories according to subject matter or in some similar way. You can imagine that websites with a huge amount of stories must need an automated method to filter or categorize them as the content is ingested into their systems. For example, algorithms that power Yahoo News label news articles with tags (e.g., Military conflict, Nuclear policy, Refugees) as they are ingested, and then display the content by subject matter and/or on a personalized feed. This well-known process of labeling content with all its relevant tags is known as Multilabel Learning (MLL). Up to now, whenever scientists and engineers use MLL to create their own specific models to label content however they like, they have used datasets that have pre-computed features like bag-of-words, or dense representations like doc2vec.
A Neural Network Wrote the Next 'Game of Thrones' Book Because George R.R. Martin Hasn't - Motherboard
There is a spoiler warning later in this post.* Minutes after the epic finale of the seventh season of Game of Thrones, fans of the show were already dismayed to hear that the final, six-episode season of the series isn't set to air until spring 2019. For readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series on which the TV show is based, disappointment stemming from that estimated wait time is laughable. The fifth novel in seven-novel series, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011 and author George R.R. Martin has been laboring over the The Winds of Winter since, with no release date in sight. With no new source material, producers of the TV series have been forced to move the story forward themselves since late season 6. Tired of the wait and armed with technology far beyond the grand maesters of Oldtown, full-stack software engineer Zack Thoutt is training a recurrent neural network (RNN) to predict the events of the unfinished sixth novel.
Apple iOS 11 will change how you use your iPhone with new augmented reality and Siri features
Sometimes the upgrades are gentle, other times, like with the arrival of iOS 7 when every icon was changed and the look of the software given a massive overhaul, it's almost unrecognisable. This year is somewhere in between. There are updates to some of the shortcut icons (the Maps icon now includes the circular Apple Park HQ on it!) But this year there are plenty of alterations you'll notice. The biggest changes, arguably, are on the iPad, but there are so many of these I'll come back to them separately.
Amazon adds multi-room audio for Echo, cuts music prices
Amazon has unveiled a major software update for its Echo speaker allowing the gadget to work as a multi-room hifi system. It also revealed a new developer kit that will allow an Echo to control speakers made by other firms, such as Bose, Samsung and Sonos for the first time. The update will allow users to simply ask for the music they want to hear in each room - or to listen to music throughout the house. Rumors from earlier this month that Amazon is launching multi-room audio have come to fruit. Starting today users with multiple Echo products can play music simultaneously in multiple rooms.
