[P] Momixa - Applying word embedding neural networks to playlist generation • r/MachineLearning

@machinelearnbot

So the title should be pretty self descriptive for learning about the songs. We have a data set of playlists scraped from Spotify, with songs that appear above a certain threshold, and we train our network to learn embeddings just like word2vec, using playlists as sentences. To generate the playlist, we find points along the (euclidean) line between the normalized vectors of the two songs the user selects. We then find a small set of the closest (cosine distance) songs to each point on this line, and from that set identify the song with the minimal squared cosine distance from the two original songs. Some playlists work out well.

The Lara Croft in the New 'Tomb Raider' Uncovers Treasure in Depth

WIRED

The first trailer for the new Tomb Raider movie is out, and if your relationship with Lara Croft began and ended in the 1990s, this is most certainly not the heroine you remember. Gone is the outlandishly buxom, clearly-designed-by-dudes lady Indiana Jones played by Angelina Jolie and a bunch of jagged pixels. In her place is a far more understated, realistic heroine. That's because this reboot is taking after another reboot--a reset of the game series, one that started in 2013 and ushered in a whole new era of Croft. Tomb Raider Won't Come to PS4 for a Year After It Hits Xbox You Need to Get to Know Ex Machina's Alicia Vikander That game, also called Tomb Raider because the world is a confusing place, looks a lot like the upcoming movie based on it.

Artificial intelligence could transform China. Beijing has ambitious plans to lead the world in artificial intelligence.

Whoops! EU's copyright reforms might suck for AI startups

#artificialintelligence

Governments are having a hard time keeping up with the world of technology, and the EU is no different. By its very nature, governing bodies are slow to change, while the tech industry's speed is astounding -- it's basically like a hippo chasing a cheetah. Tech.eu reported on the unintended side-effects of the new reforms. According to the tech site, there's a general consensus about the reforms' big-picture but the nitty-gritty is hotly debated, especially how it will affect startups. Turns out, startups built around AI, machine learning and big data will be particularly affected.

Humans can mimic machines, too; look out, AutoTune - CDM Create Digital Music

#artificialintelligence

As machines create more-perfect vocal and instrumental performances, a funny thing is happening: humans are catching up. The normal assumption about machine learning or "cyborg" technology is, as technology improves, we'll augment ourselves with more technology. But that misses the fact that humans, both individually and socially, are also smart and adaptable. We start to learn from the tech. I once met Stewart Copeland (The Police, composer), and he talked about this very phenomenon. A lot of the sound of The Police involved Stewart's playing routed through various effects.

Chinese internet search engine Baidu sets up $1.5bn self driving car fund

The Independent - Tech

Chinese search engine Baidu announced a 10bn yuan ($1.1bn) self-driving car fund on Thursday as part of a wider plan to speed up its technical development and compete with US rivals. The "Apollo Fund" will invest in 100 autonomous driving projects over the next three years, Baidu said in a statement. The fund's launch coincides with the release of Apollo 1.5, the second generation of the company's open-source autonomous vehicle software. After years of internal development, Baidu in April decided to open its autonomous driving technology to third parties; a move it hopes will accelerate development and help it compete with US firms Tesla and Google project Waymo. In the latest update to its platform, Baidu says partners can access new obstacle perception technology and high-definition maps, among other features. It comes amid a wider reshuffle of Baidu's corporate strategy as it looks for new profit streams outside its core search business, which lost a large chunk of ad revenue in 2016 following strict new government regulations on medical advertising.

The AI Glossary: A Data Scientist's No-Fluff Explanations for Key AI Concepts

#artificialintelligence

As a data scientist at an AI company, my colleagues and I are as tired of the hyperbole and conflicting information in the space as you are, friend. It seems like everyone's got their own definition for the AI buzzword du jour, and it's leading to a lot of contradictions and confusion--and that's not helpful for anyone. There have been a few noble attempts from academics, tech journalists, other AI companies, and fellow data scientists at simplifying industry concepts and laying some groundwork on key terms for us all to agree on. But I've found them either still too marketing-y or so rambling they leave your head spinning. Below are my fluff-free explanations of popular AI terms.

[P] A PyTorch implementation of Paragraph Vectors (doc2vec) • r/MachineLearning

@machinelearnbot

This past year, I've seen a lot of repos for implementations that train *2vec, and other embeddings. In order to increase interest, is it possible to add into your repo either real-life or manufactured examples (or even links to papers / research) where people use said vector embeddings and actually do something with them?

My pre-configured Deep Learning Python Amazon AWS AMI is publicly available for your use. • r/MachineLearning

@machinelearnbot

I never really had any issues installing required stuff with the Amazon Linux AMI. The most annoying parts were always having to download CuDNN from Nvidia and compiling the current master branches for Tensorflow and Keras, which I'd most likely have to do here as well. Though, I'm sure this will be a big help for some people who aren't strong with Linux.

Apple Music Update Adds 'OK Google' Support To Android App

International Business Times

Apple rolled out a new version of its Apple Music app for Android. This update comes with support for the "OK Google" voice command and other improvements that make the Android app up to par with the native iOS version. On Tuesday, Apple launched a new iteration of Apple Music for Android. This new 2.2.0 update requires Android 4.3 and newer Android versions. It is also designed to bring some features of the iOS app and other enhancements to its Android counterpart.
