For attractiveness the moderators were given 3 choices: hot, neutral, and not. We trained the classifier with those 3 categories and the score is a linear combination of the softmax probabilities for each bucket. We tried our best to eliminate bias but i'm sure it still exists based on the human input.

Luxury Institute and EIX: Artificial Intelligence Demands Emergence of

#artificialintelligence

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - January 09, 2018) - Artificial intelligence is the big buzzword now. Academic studies trumpet that A.I. will replace humans in the workplace at unprecedented rates, while seemingly every start-up and legacy brand touts A.I. to describe its business, hoping to make what it does sound compelling and unique. Artificial intelligence, however, is not quite as intelligent as it has been claimed to be. A.I. will dramatically improve the lives of humans, if implemented ethically, but reports in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and other reputable media have documented that A.I. can be biased, sexist, racist, inexplicable, wrong, and, just plain stupid. Neural networks are as "intelligent" as the historical data and human-imposed-rules upon which they train.

How to involve the public in the development of artificial intelligence

#artificialintelligence

This year algorithms discovered a planet, taught themselves to play chess and wrote a pretty bizarre Harry Potter novel. But they also allowed fake news to influence the US election and enabled advanced mass surveillance in China. Artificial intelligence (AI), not the type that will see super intelligent robots destroy humanity, but the type that might deny you a credit card or develop a scarily accurate picture of your life, is already starting to shape how we live. This will only continue as governments start to invest huge sums in the field. Where are the voices of ordinary people in the conversation about how AI should develop?

AI System Sorts News Articles By Whether or Not They Contain Actual Information

#artificialintelligence

There's a thing in journalism now where news is very often reframed in terms of personal anecdote and-or hot take. In an effort to have something new and clickable to say, we reach for the easiest, closest thing at hand, which is, well, ourselves--our opinions and experiences. I worry about this a lot! I do it (and am doing it right now), and I think it's not always for ill. But in a larger sense it's worth wondering to what degree the larger news feed is being diluted by news stories that are not "content dense."

Artificial Intelligence: Implications for the Future of Education

#artificialintelligence

Have you noticed more discussion recently about Artificial Intelligence or AI? When first hearing "Artificial Intelligence" is there an image that pops into your mind? Is it something that you can easily define? Perhaps your understanding/reference point is something you've seen in the movies. For myself, being an 80s child, my initial frame of reference is Star Wars, I immediately think of R2D2 or C3PO. My mind then wanders to thoughts of "I, Robot" starring Will Smith, in which the robots developed the capacity to think like humans, to feel and to take action on their own.
