Ad that made Amazon device order cat food cleared
A television ad for Amazon's Echo Dot smart speaker that caused a viewer's device to try to order cat food has been cleared by a UK regulator. The advert, which aired in October, featured a man asking Amazon's voice assistant Alexa to order Purina cat food. A viewer said the ad caused their Echo Dot device to respond after hearing the ad on the television. The viewer complained that the ad was "socially irresponsible". The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) announced that it would not uphold the consumer's complaint because it did not find the advert to be in breach of the UK Code of Broadcast Advertising.
Only 4 pc of CIOs have deployed AI despite huge interest levels in AI technologies - ET CIO
Bangalore: Artificial Intelligence (AI), one of the most popular forms of Cognitive technologies has some what failed to make a big mark on enterprises and organisations when it comes to its implementation. Only four percent of CIOs have implemented AI according to Gartner's 2018 CIO Agenda Survey, while a further 46 percent of CIOs have developed some plans to do so. "Despite huge levels of interest in AI technologies, current implementations remain at quite low levels," said Whit Andrews, Research Vice President and Distinguished Analyst - Gartner. "However, there is potential for strong growth as CIOs begin piloting AI programs through a combination of buy, build and outsource efforts." As with most emerging or unfamiliar technologies, early adopters are facing many obstacles to the progress of AI in their organizations. Gartner analysts have identified the following four lessons that have emerged from these early AI projects.
From investment to wellness: Expect these 5 artificial intelligence trends in 2018
Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning – all terms casually tossed about over recent years to paint a vision of a future only seen in Hollywood movies. But 2018, experts say, is the future -- the year when AI will start to dominate devices both at home and at work. Simply put, there will be less talk and more action as all energies sunk in investment and research and development of newer applications of AI start producing results in 2018. "Results are starting to appear beyond computers learning to beat humans at board games and TV game shows," said Bernard Marr, bestselling author and industry expert. "I expect 2018 to provide a continuous stream of small but sure steps forward, as machine learning and neural network technology take on more routine tasks."
The 'Black Panther' Director of Photography Is a Cinematic Superhero
As Hollywood events go, there are few more congratulatory than film festival awards ceremonies, where everyone wants to cheer for the Next Big Thing before they get huge. Yet, at this year's Sundance Film Festival, the biggest applause at the awards show wasn't for a director or actor--it was for Rachel Morrison, a director of photography on the festival jury. "Earlier this week," host Jason Mantzoukas said while announcing her name, "she became the first woman ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for cinematography. Her historic nod is for last year's Sundance hit Mudbound." Out in the audience, Morrison smiled sheepishly; at her side, fellow jurors Jada Pinkett Smith and Octavia Spencer whooped up a storm. The audience stood to clap.
