[P] Image completion using incomplete data • r/MachineLearning

#artificialintelligence

Most of the image completion and generative models require fully-observed samples to train the network. However, as it's stated in the ambientGAN paper, obtaining high resolution samples can be very expensive or impractical for some applications. The AmbientGAN model enables training a generative model directly from noisy or incomplete samples. The generator in the model successfully predicts samples from the true distribution with the use of a measurement function. On the other hand, the model in Globally and Locally Consistent Image Completion uses fully-observed samples to train the network.

Job Board Journalist: Artificial Intelligence & Recruiting - TAtech

#artificialintelligence

Over 120 technologists, HR and TA execs and job board leaders convened for the first-ever TAtech Leadership Summit on AI & Machine Learning in Talent Acquisition last week in Scottsdale. The event was sponsored by Paradox.ai. The conference had three goals: • To cut through the hype and discuss what's real and what's not in artificial intelligence and machine learning technology; • To showcase some of the leading products on the market today that use the technology for talent acquisition; and • To explore some of the issues that could arise from the application of the technology in talent acquisition and the workplace at large. So, just what is artificial intelligence? Some in our industry have proposed academic definitions that are so esoteric they make no practical sense whatsoever.

Artificial intelligence is everywhere, watching almost all modern-day human behaviors

#artificialintelligence

One of the problems in demystifying artificial intelligence is that once an AI-based product reaches the public, "we stop calling it AI," said Tara Chklovski, the CEO and founder of Iridescent, a nonprofit that aims to educate and empower children and their parents on engineering and technology matters. Instead, she went on, "we call it GPS." And it's a significant truth because it means the world of AI stays mired in the average person's mind as something of a science fiction-type character -- a Terminator programmed to kill, a Matrix hero designed to liberate, a Star Wars robot set to serve. But AI is not one and the same as a robot. Simply put, AI is everywhere.

Majority of Employees Worldwide Think Artificial Intelligence Can Make Work Better

#artificialintelligence

According to a global survey of nearly 3,000 employees across eight nations conducted by The Workforce Institute at Kronos Incorporated, four out of five employees surveyed see significant opportunity for artificial intelligence (AI) to create a more engaging and empowering workplace experience, yet admit a lack of transparency from their employers is a primary driver of fear and concern. The Engaging Opportunity: Working Smarter with AI survey conducted with Coleman Parkes Research explores how employees – both hourly and salaried from a variety of industries in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. – believe emerging technologies should be used to improve the future of work. The Workforce Institute at Kronos provides research and education on critical workplace issues facing organizations around the globe. By bringing together thought leaders, The Workforce Institute at Kronos is uniquely positioned to empower organizations with the knowledge and information they need to manage their workforce effectively and provide a voice for employees on important workplace issues. A hallmark of The Workforce Institute's research is balancing the needs and desires of diverse employee populations with the needs of organizations.

Taryn Southern's new album is produced entirely by AI

#artificialintelligence

Music has been made on computers for decades, but the technology has traditionally been much more utilitarian than collaborative when it comes to the music-making process. In recent years, however, artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved to a level where it can help artists actually create music for 50-piece orchestras and even help craft Billboard hits. Singer-songwriter and YouTuber Taryn Southern has decided to push the limits of AI composition, putting the sound of her new album into the "hands" of four AI programs: Amper Music, IBM's Watson Beat, Google's Magenta, and AIVA. Aptly titled I Am AI, the album will be the first of its kind to be fully composed with and totally produced by AI when it releases in May. While each AI program is unique, they generally create music by following certain parameters (genre, tempo, style).

What Black Panther Could Mean for the Afrofuturism Movement

Slate

Future Tense is a partnership of Slate, New America, and Arizona State University that examines emerging technologies, public policy, and society. Imagine the difficulties of being a Disney movie, much less a Marvel-Disney movie, in the 21st century. The financial pressures to bust the block on a global scale; the concomitant riddle of needing to seduce your diverse viewership, with its Babel Tower's worth of tongues; the hypersensitive, vociferous, hardcore fans; and atop all that, the Mercury-hot culture wars that you simply cannot avoid engaging. And now, if you're Black Panther, cube all those thorny problems, because you're fundamentally Afrocentric in a moment when anti-black animus is ascendant and white supremacist sensibilities are fashionable in many quarters. That's what makes Ryan Coogler's Black Panther so boldly titillating before we even glimpse its fabulous cinematography, CGI, and acting.

Consumer Applications Are the Largest Market Segment for Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Even as research and investment into artificial intelligence (AI) have gone through some 60 years of booms and busts, consumers' fascination with the technology persists. But it is with the recent rise of digitization, Big Data, improved algorithms, and processing speed that consumer applications of AI have begun to emerge into the mainstream. From movie recommendations to search engine queries, AI and, more specifically, deep learning are powering a range of applications that have recalibrated consumer expectations for the digital lifestyle. According to a new report from Tractica, consumer AI now accounts for the largest portion of AI software, hardware, and services revenue, reaching $1.9 billion in 2016 and rising to $2.7 billion by the end of 2017, which is greater than any other industry segment. Although the entire market, including consumer AI, remains in its infancy, Tractica forecasts strong growth ahead, with the market for consumer AI hardware, software, and services increasing to $42.1 billion by 2025.

Learning to Explain: An Information-Theoretic Perspective on Model Interpretation

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Interpretability is an extremely important criterion when a machine learning model is applied in areas such as medicine, financial markets, and criminal justice (e.g., see the discussion paper by Lipton ([18]), as well as references therein). Many complex models, such as random forests, kernel methods, and deep neural networks, have been developed and employed to optimize prediction accuracy, which can compromise their ease of interpretation. In this paper, we focus on instancewise feature selection as a specific approach for model interpretation. Given a machine learning model, instancewise feature selection asks for the importance scores of each feature on the prediction of a given instance, and the relative importance of each feature are allowed to vary across instances. Thus, the importance scores can act as an explanation for the specific instance, indicating which features are the key for the model to make its prediction on that instance.

Beyond Text Analytics - Machine Mapping The Human Mind Via Computational Linguistics

#artificialintelligence

A particular event in 2008 was billed as a landmark in automotive engineering and received global media coverage. With 31 design and 37 technology patents filed, it was touted as a global land mark in affordable transportation. In terms of estimated market impact it was placed right beside the iconic Ford Model T and VW Beetle. The car was expected to revolutionize personnel transportation in the developing world, however much to disbelief initial sales were dismal and continued to remain a fraction of original expectations. A through analysis years later identified the main culprit.

Spotify Job Listings Suggest Its Building Smart Speaker

International Business Times

Music streaming service Spotify may already be working on its own smart speaker. A trio of job listings posted by Spotify suggest that the company is set to start manufacturing its new upcoming hardware product. "Spotify is on its way to creating its first physical products and setting up an operational organization for manufacturing, supply chain, sales & marketing," Spotify said on its "operations manager" job listing. Other hardware related job listings include "senior project manager: hardware production" and "project manager: hardware." The job listings were first spotted by MusicAlly.
