Some Awesome New Superhero Skins Have Leaked For 'Fortnite: Battle Royale'
Thanks to some good old datamining, we have a fresh look at a new slate of cosmetics heading to Fortnite, including some truly awesome skins that players are certainly going to want to get their hands on. I think some people consider skin reveals "spoilers" for Fortnite, which strikes me as odd for a game with no real story elements, but avoid the full collection if you want, I suppose. Right now, these do not have any names or rarities attached to them, but that will probably change soon enough, and I'll update them when I can. These two feel like takes on Daft Punk, mixed with a bit of the astronaut vibe from season 3. I believe these two are heroes and/or villains to go along with the overall theme for season 4. The guy on the left seems like a take on The Flash, so I'm going to guess V is for Velocity here. Sea monster man is less sleek, and he seems fairly villainous to me, but I suppose that's profiling.
The new AI-powered Google News app is now available for iOS
Google teased a new version of its News app with AI smarts at its I/O event last week, and today that revamped app landed for iOS and Android devices in 127 countries. The redesigned app replaces the previous Google Play Newsstand app. The idea is to make finding and consuming news easier than ever, whilst providing an experience that's customized to each reader and supportive of media publications. The AI element is designed to learn from what you read to help serve you a better selection of content over time, while the app is presented with a clear and clean layout. Opening the app brings up the tailored'For You' tab which acts as a quick briefing, serving up the top five stories "of the moment" and a tailored selection of opinion articles and longer reads below it.
'Fortnite: Battle Royale' Season 4 -- How To Unlock Week 3's Secret Free Battle Pass Tier
Just like last week, tucked away in Fortnite's third week of Season 4, you can unlock a free tier if you complete every one of this week's challenges. Completing each challenge is part of the ongoing Blockbuster challenge that rewards players with new loading screens for completing an entire week's worth of challenges. Complete all 7 Blockbuster challenges and you get a super-secret special prize. If you look very, very carefully you'll see the location of the Battle Star: It's a little bit confusing to see the map of the island on a curve like this, so let's zoom in even more: Simply visit this location after you've completed all of the challenges (guide here) and then visit this location and wham-presto! That's about the best prize you can get, though it's never easy to complete every challenge.
Why Augmented World Expo Is XR's Most Essential Conference
Augmented World Expo, better known as its acronym AWE, has grown to become one of the AR and VR world's most important gatherings, with over 6,000 attendees expected. The conference, May 30 - June 1, 2018, takes place in the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley. This year AWE is preparing 100,000 square feet of exhibition space for 250 exhibiting companies and featuring 350 speakers. Attendees will engage in hundreds of tech demos, art installations, educational sessions and product launches. Bridging the gap between technology and the human experience, AWE 2018 will feature around 1000 demos of headsets, software, and tools - plus more meetings than you can possibly tuck into a manic schedule.
Google's AI-powered News app arrives on iOS
A redesigned Google News for iOS was a notable inclusion at the Google I/O keynote last week. Today it rolls out officially, replacing the existing Google Play Newsstand, which launched on iOS in 2104 as a news and magazine subscription hub. The app has been completely reimagined, designed to handle the ever-evolving way we consume news, and leveraging existing AI and machine-learning technology to create a personalized and curated experience. Most importantly, it draws from a variety of sources to deliver packages of opinion, analysis and fact-checked articles focused on specific newsworthy events, giving users a solid platform from which to make up their own minds about current affairs. The app comprises three main components: "For You", "Full Coverage" and Newsstand.
Ericsson Pioneers Machine Learning Network Design for SoftBank
SoftBank Corp. ("SoftBank"), a leading mobile operator in Japan, has implemented an innovative method for radio access network design from Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC), based on machine intelligence. The service groups cells in clusters and takes statistics from cell overlapping and potential to use carrier aggregation between cells into account, thus reducing operational expenditure and improving network performance. Compared to traditional network design methods, it cut the lead time by 40 percent. Ryo Manda, Radio Technology Section Manager at the Tokai Network Technology Department of SoftBank, says: "We applied Ericsson's service on dense urban clusters with multi-band complexity in the Tokai region. The positive outcome exceeded our expectations and we are currently proceeding in other geographical areas with the same method and close cooperation with Ericsson."
In 'Superminds,' an argument for calm about robots, artificial intelligence, and jobs
But with the support of computers they can do a lot more. An MIT Sloan expert on collective intelligence says that's a good thing. Superminds are groups of people working together -- in hierarchies, democracies, markets, communities, or ecosystems. Professor Thomas W. Malone, director of the MIT Center for Collective Intelligence, analyzes how computers can make these groups even more powerful in his new book, "Superminds: The Surprising Power of People and Computers Thinking Together." In the book, Malone dispels the popular perception that work will be automated out of existence (for better or worse, depending on who you're talking to).
AI dominates Google developer conference keynote
Google has unveiled a range of new products focused on artificial intelligence, which the technology giant hopes will make its services easier to use. At the firm's annual I/O developer conference, Google's latest innovations included revamps for its Android operating system, as well as Gmail and virtual helper Google Assistant. The next version of Google's annually updated mobile operating system, Android P, is now "smarter" according to the firm, thanks to new machine learning tools at its heart. This artificial intelligence has been applied to several new features, including Adaptive Battery which prioritises power to the apps used most, while Adaptive Brightness automatically tweaks screen brightness. There are also App Actions, which learn user habits and then predict which app a user is likely to turn to next - for example raising a prompt to resume a Spotify playlist when a pair of headphones are plugged in.
Fake News And How Artificial Intelligence Tools Can Help
A word of warning to those that infiltrate the content pipeline with information that's not factual, because there's heightened demand for new methods to distill the mountains of information we are presented with daily down to the unadulterated facts. People crave a way to cut through the opinions, marketing speak and propaganda to get to the truth. And technology just might be the solution we need to become data-driven decision-makers and objectively understand the information. There are reasons why we struggle under the weight of fake or worthless content. Every 60 seconds, 160 million emails are sent, 98,000 tweets are shared on Twitter, 600 videos are uploaded to YouTube and 1,500 blog entries are created.
