r/MachineLearning - [D] Idea for GAN with Memory for Text QA
This is for the purpose of question answering or conversation. I found this architecture unique, because of the shared component of memory between the gen./disc., but I haven't read any GAN papers in the last year so maybe it's already been done? The model needs memory for sequences. Quick proof by example: As a human evaluator, if we give the model some new input (x) like "Who is Yann LeCun" and we know that is outside the training data, then a perfectly ok output is "I don't know.". So the correct answer requires some estimation of the model itself (which it's memory implicitly contains). So to produce a good output (y) after training, during training the model will be implicitly estimating "s", a function of it's own output and state.
Facebook is reportedly close to buying a British AI startup to help it shut down fake news
Facebook is set to acquire London-based start-up Bloomsbury AI for up to $30 million (£23 million), according to a TechCrunch report. Founded in 2015, Bloomsbury AI specialises in natural language processing (NLP) technology, and has developed an AI called "Cape," which can read text documents and answer questions about their contents. The company's stated goal is for their AI to "[eventually] be able to answer any question that requires reading better than a human." Citing anonymous sources, TechCrunch claims that Facebook plans to use Bloomsbury AI's team and tech to work on combatting fake news, as well as other content issues. It also said Facebook is paying between $23 million and $30 million to acquire the company, and that a mixture of cash and stock will change hands. Bloomsbury's investors include the VC firm Fly Ventures, Seedcamp, IQ Capital, UCL Technology Fund, and the UK taxpayer-backed London Co-Investment fund.
Weakly Supervised Deep Recurrent Neural Networks for Basic Dance Step Generation
Yalta, Nelson, Watanabe, Shinji, Nakadai, Kazuhiro, Ogata, Tetsuya
ABSTRACT A deep recurrent neural network with audio input is applied to model basic dance steps. The proposed model employs multilayered Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) layers and convolutional layers to process the audio power spectrum. This end-to-end approach has an auto-conditioned decode configuration that reduces accumulation of feedback error. Experimental results demonstrate that, after training using a small dataset, the model generates basic dance steps with low cross entropy and maintains a motion beat F-measure score similar to that of a baseline dancer. In addition, we investigate the use of a contrastive cost function for music-motion regulation. Experimental result demonstrate that the cost function improves the motion beat f-score.
Microsoft Monday: Dual-Screen Surface Rumor, Sets Feature Postponed, Halo TV Series
"Microsoft Monday" is a weekly column that focuses on all things Microsoft. This week "Microsoft Monday" features news about the dual-screen pocketable Surface rumor, new LinkedIn features, the USB-C dongle for Surface devices, the Sets feature getting postponed, the Halo TV series and much more! According to documents leaked to The Verge, Microsoft is working on a dual-screen Surface device that could fit in your pocket. The device is currently codenamed Andromeda and it has been in development for at least two years. "It's a new pocketable Surface device form factor that brings together innovative new hardware and software experiences to create a truly personal and versatile computing experience," says the leaked internal documents.
Disney has built humanoid 'stuntbots' to take over from actors during dangerous stunts
Walt Disney Studios is developing humanoid robots to serve as stunt doubles in some of its latest blockbusters, which include the likes of Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar. Known as'stuntbots', the robots could also be used in live theatre shows at Walt Disney owned theme parks and resorts. Stuntronics are autonomous, self-correcting aerial performers capable of making on-the-go corrections during high-flying stunts to ensure they also land safely. The latest robots are being developed by Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development in Los Angeles, California. Walt Disney Studios creates cinematic wonders such as Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar and uses a mixture of human actors, stunt doubles and CGI to bring them to life.
'Fortnite: Battle Royale': This Might Be Our First Leak Of Season 5 Battle Pass Loot
Fortnite's Season 5 is just around the corner. There appears to be plenty of Season 4 left, to be sure: there's a giant crack in the sky, interdimensional rifts on the ground and a whole lot of question marks about what this game has in store for the next 10 days. But even as we've got our eyes on those things, the community and developers are getting ready for Season 5, which means endless speculation on the theme and, when possible, a little bit of datamining. The datamining scene has gotten much more sophisticated since Season 4 began, and now every single update that Epic puts out is pulled apart by multiple entities until it gives up its every secret. Epic appears to have been countering this by misnaming things or avoiding putting them in, but there's only so much that you can do.
Tonara launches an AI-powered tutoring service for budding musicians
AI has an important role to play in the education industry, which also happens to be a lucrative and still–growing space. The global private tutoring market alone will be worth more than $102 billion by the end of this year, and public education offers an equally fruitful opportunity. AI-powered music tutoring app Tonara today announced the launch of its Tonaro 360 music tutoring service, along with a new music store. Throughout beta testing, music teachers reported up to a 68 percent increase in practice hours among students using Tonara 360. So how does it work?
SBI, other banks using AI big time to improve efficiency, cut costs
Indian banks, including state-owned SBI and Bank of Baroda, have started deploying artificial intelligence (AI) in a big way to improve efficiency, detect human behaviour and reduce operational costs. State Bank of India, the India's largest lender, has SBI Intelligent Assistant (SIA) -- a smart chat assistant, evolved from the "cutting edge technology of artificial intelligence, that efficiently resolves queries of NRI customers, similar to that of a bank representative. The bank is also in the process of instituting an'Innovation Centre' that will explore how emerging technologies such as AI and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) can help in making internal banking processes more efficient. Another state lender Bank of Baroda has evolved an innovative concept by setting up of hi-tech digital branch equipped with advanced gadgets like artificial intelligence robot named Baroda Brainy and Digital Lab with free Wi-Fi services. "The Indian banking industry is on a rapid digital journey and has been adopting technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning which will reshape the future.
Halo video game franchise to become live-action TV series
Blockbusting video game Halo is to be adapted into a 10-part live-action series, which will aim to succeed where a doomed film project and a poorly received web series failed. In an announcement, David Nevins, the president and CEO of premium cable network Showtime, creators of the show, said that it would focus on "an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant". It has struggled, however, when film-makers and TV executives have tried to adapt it for the screen. A mooted film was to be directed by Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro and then Neil Blomkamp, with a script from Ex Machina's Alex Garland, but it failed to materialise. Halo 4 followed a "TV structure" with daily mission episodes free to download for players.
The Top GitHub Repositories & Reddit Threads Every Data Scientist should know (June 2018) - Analytics Vidhya
Half the year has flown by and that brings us to the June edition of our popular series – the top GitHub repositories and Reddit threads from last month. During the course of writing these articles, I have learned so much about machine learning from either open source codes or invaluable discussions among the top data science brains in the world. What makes GitHub special is not just it's code hosting and social collaboration features for data scientists. It has lowered the entry barrier into the open source world and has played a MASSIVE role in spreading knowledge and expanding the machine learning community. We saw some amazing open source code being released in June.
