Creepy robotic dog that can crawl, walk and run shown fending off humans who try to push it over
Scientists have unveiled a quadrupedal robot that can open doors, ride an elevator and, in perhaps one of the creepiest scenarios, move uninterrupted after being pushed over by a human. Called the'ANYmal,' the device is described as an autonomous robot that can navigate nearly any terrain, including ones deemed unsafe for human entry. Anymal's robotic limbs allow it to move at a pace that's comparable to that of a human and it can carry a payload of up to 22lbs. It was developed by Robotic Systems Lab at ETH Zurich University in Switzerland and has been shown in several videos completing various tasks. The latest clip shows Anymal using an articulated arm to turn a door handle, then push the door open with ease.
Fortnite Season 6: Teaser hints at cube fate and gives sneak peak ahead of imminent release date
Fortnite Season 6 is almost here, with Epic Games formally announcing that the latest version of the battle royale phenomenon will launch on 27 September. A teaser image showing a robotic lama was published by the official social media channels of Fortnite's developer on Monday, though it is not clear what this signifies. A short message accompanied the image: "All great parties need a DJ. 3 days to Season 6." Players of the game can expect new skins, challenges and updates to the map, which has already begun to change after the mysterious purple cube rolled into Loot Lake last week. After a month of rolling periodically around the terrain, leaving scorch patterns – or'runes – on the ground, the giant cube reached its final destination. When it reached the lake, it transformed the surface into a purple trampoline.
Apple iPhone XS Review: Excess at its Best
Last year's iPhone X was a groundbreaking device, in part due to the removal of what made the iPhone so iconic. Gone was the fingerprint-scanning home button, and in its place was an aesthetically controversial "notch" to make room for the Face ID security (and Animoji) functionality. It was also groundbreaking in terms of price. It may have debuted alongside the $699-and-up iPhone 8, but it was the first thousand-dollar smartphone from Apple, a price a surprisingly high number of people were able to stomach for the sake of having the coolest phone on the block. With the new iPhone XS and XS Max, Apple is trying to tell us something: like it or not, this is the future of the iPhone.

Kanye West Lyrics Used to Program Rapping A.I. Bot: Listen
A West Virginia teenager has created a rapping A.I. bot that self-generates bars using Kanye West lyrics, Quartz reports. Robbie Barrat, 17, was debating whether artificial intelligence could be taught to perform tasks better than humans in his high school's programming club. Using open-source code, Barrat programmed the A.I. with 6,000 Kanye lines and finished the project in a week to show his peers at the next club meeting. "Originally it just rearranged existing rap lyrics, but now it can actually write word-by-word," Barrat said. The bot can also incorporate pauses for rhythm and effect.
How to build a Deep Learning Image Classifier for Game of Thrones dragons
Deep learning doesn't take a huge amount of time or computational resources. Nor does it require highly complex code, and in some cases not even a large amount of training data. Curated best practices are now available as libraries that make it easy to plug in and write your own neural network architectures using a minimal amount of code to achieve more than 90% prediction accuracies. The two most popular deep learning libraries are: (1) pytorch created by Facebook (we will be using fastai today, which is built on top of pytorch) and (2) the keras-tensorflow framework created by Google. We will build an image classifier using the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model to predict if a given image is that of Drogon or Vicerion (any Game of Thrones fans here in the house?
Artificial intelligence might not threaten the human race, but it could be coming for your job
You likely have heard how artificial intelligence is changing the world, from smart phones that keep getting smarter to all the experimenting with driverless vehicles. The rapidly improving technology has also begun replacing workers, especially anyone who performs routine tasks. By some accounts, artificial intelligence could impact half the jobs in the country over the next 25 years. Don--t think of it as a new tool like the cotton gin or the personal computer, so much as a massively disruptive transformation. It--s being called the next industrial revolution.
Don't be fooled -- this automated system sneakily manipulates video content
A team of researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed an artificial intelligence system that automatically transfers content from one film into the style of another. In the vein of "deep fakes", the A.I.-augmented videos infamous for superimposing one person's face onto another's body, the CMU system presents another case for how difficult it could be to distinguish fiction from reality in the future. The CMU researches have named their system Recycle-GAN, after a class of algorithms that help make deep fakes possible by applying the style of one image or video to another. In a video released early this month, the researchers demonstrated how a source video of Barack Obama speaking can be processed to make it seem as though Donald Trump is mouthing the word. Or a monologue from John Oliver can be transformed into one from Stephen Colbert. Recycle-GAN isn't limited to human faces either.
These simple tips can help you get the most out of your TV, home theater experience
The E8 OLED doesn't improve much in image quality over LG's 2017 TVs, but it does have a few key improvements. Play with the settings of your new TV, such as the Samsung QLED line of televisions, to make it picture perfect. You're blown away by the image quality of the televisions on sale at your favorite electronics retailer, but when you take one home, it somehow doesn't look (or sound) as good as the in-store experience. Your new flat-panel (or perhaps curved) television just needs a bit of tweaking for you to get the most out of it. And no, you don't need a degree in electrical engineering to pull it off.
Hokkaido daily successfully tests newspaper delivery by drone
SAPPORO – A Hokkaido newspaper company tested delivery by drone on Friday to determine whether the unmanned aircraft can be relied on to bring news to the public in times of disaster. Two weeks after a level 7 earthquake caused deadly landslides and a prefecture-wide blackout, a group comprising operators of the daily Hokkaido Shimbun's delivery shops successfully flew a drone carrying 10 copies of its newspaper 200 meters across a river in the city of Asahikawa under a hypothetical scenario in which a major quake damages a bridge and severs roads. The magnitude 6.7 quake on Sept. 6 triggered landslides that engulfed homes and shattered roads, while the blackout cut off access to information via TV, computers and mobile devices. "I'm glad we were able to deliver them successfully, as newspapers are an information infrastructure that is necessary when something drastic happens," Takuma Banno, 41-year-old head of the daily's distribution shop in Sapporo, said of the one-minute flight. The idea for the test was hatched in May and planned out before the quake struck.
