YouPorn launches personalized weekly video playlists powered by machine learning
Adult entertainment hub YouPorn is taking a leaf out of Spotify's book with a new weekly playlist that uses "industry-leading machine learning systems" to serve up suggested videos for users. YouPorn is one of the most visited pornography websites in the world and is among the most visited websites overall, with a current Alexa ranking of 203. It claims around 1 billion video views per month. The company is touting its new personalized video collections as something akin to Discover Weekly, a popular playlist delivered to Spotify users that's built on big data and deep learning. Called "For You Weekly," YouPorn's new video collections will be available for logged-in users only, but the company promises they will be personalized for each individual user based on their activities and other preferences.
A mathematical model captures the political impact of fake news
The fundamental problem of communication is to reproduce at one point in the universe a message created at another point. The problem is made more difficult by the fact that there is always noise that distorts this message--0s get flipped into 1s, b's sound like d's, and smoke signals get, well, blown away. So the receiver of any message has to have a strategy to deal with this noise. That turns out to be entirely possible in many situations. The mathematician and engineer Claude Shannon proved that a message can always be reproduced more or less exactly, provided noise is below some threshold level.

'Summer Davos' in China casts spotlight on technological advances beyond Silicon Valley
TIANJIN, CHINA โ The award-winning film "Tree" offers a rare multisensory virtual reality experience of becoming a rainforest tree from a seedling in just 15 minutes. Reading a short speech into a microphone analyzes your voice and tells who you are -- your sex, height, skull type, personality and emotional state. A high-resolution video camera identifies you from 500 meters away. These computational imaging and artificial intelligence-driven technologies were all on display at the World Economic Forum's conference in Tianjin, China, last week. Some 2,500 leaders from politics, academia and a range of business sectors, including many startups, from around the world gathered in the city for the Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2018 -- often dubbed the "Summer Davos" -- where they experienced these advanced technologies and discussed how those such as AI and blockchain will influence society in the coming years.
Adult film AI: X-rated site using ROBOTS to create 'customised playlists'
"We wanted to provide our users with a collection of personalised content to save time and improve their experience" The site is also rolling out other updates including video tagging, new categories, and other filters to "increase efficiency and overall accuracy of user searches", according to a statement. But some have warned the technology will give big tech companies too much intimate personal information, building up an even more complete picture of who we are. In January, Daily Star Online reported many popular sex sites are collecting personal data including addresses. It isn't the first time adult sites have used AI.

It's hard to believe Google is about to turn 20 years old. And while the company has changed drastically in the past two decades, going from being a simple search engine to a global tech titan, there's one thing that's been there from the very first day: the homepage Doodle. Since 1998, Google has kept its site looking fresh by creating different variations of its logo, inspired by cultural icons, events and phenomenons such as Pac-Man, the birth of hip-hop and more. More than 2,000 Doodles have adorned Google's homepage, each with a unique charm. But there are some that have stood out from the rest and will forever be embedded in people's memories.
