Video Games Level Up
Visitors play the video game "Call of Duty" at the Tokyo Game Show on September 21, 2018. Last year, the global film industry made $40 billion. The global gaming industry made $122 billion. And the world of video games is just as broad as the film industry. There are indie games and big budget games -- games that feel like a graphic novel and games that play through like a blockbuster movie.

Cambridge startup secures £1m for AI-powered expert finder Business Weekly Technology News Business news
The round was led by Cambridge angel Simon Thorpe who has already demonstrated the Midas touch. He was an investor in Swiftkey and Vocal IQ – Cambridge-founded businesses bought by Google and Apple, respectively, for a combined $350 million. The new round was also backed by Angel CoFund, a VC fund that co-invests alongside angel investors. John Spearman, GW Asia Capital Ltd and Adrian Lloyd also participated, and all three non-exec directors from round one have re-invested. Quick access to expertise on demand is essential for growth and progress in everything from rare disease research to the development of sustainable fuels.
Apple Watch, Google Pixel 3, Amazon Fire TV: Talking Tech's 10 favorite gadgets of 2018
USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham reviews the 2018 year in tech, which includes the most popular apps, binge-worthy TV shows and much more USA TODAY We didn't see every product released -- but we did see, touch and feel a lot of them. Several of the ones mentioned here I went out and bought after I reviewed them -- others I lusted after. Let's work our way from 10 to 1. Unlike smartphones, which hit ridiculous prices in 2018, many topping $1,000, you've got to love what LaCie is selling you for a portable, rugged hard drive. I picked up a 4 terabyte external drive for $150. Two years ago, these drives were 1 TB at best for the same price, and now I've got four times as much room.
Drones and Artificial Intelligence: They are making a real impact on future sustainability
Inspired by listening one of the episodes of the podcast Data Crunch by Vault Analytics, on the topic: "Drones and AI", it came to my mind how drones are being used nowadays, not only as a hobby but for commercial purposes, too. Drones are getting popular in the community and different industries such as film and photography. Game of Thrones TV show pays a lot of money to get amazing shots! You can get more interesting photos using a drone than a traditional camera. Just imagine the unique perspective from a drone's view, they definitely offer impressive and incredible shots.
Google announces 'Journalism AI' project in partnership with think tank Polis- Technology News, Firstpost
To help news industry use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in more innovative ways, Google has announced a partnership with Polis, the international journalism think-tank at London School of Economics and Political Science, to create "Journalism AI". Part of the Google News Initiative (GNI), the "Journalism AI" project will focus on research and training for newsrooms on the intersection of AI and journalism. "As part of'Journalism AI', next year, we'll publish a global survey about how the media is currently using -- and could further benefit from -- this technology," Google said in a statement on Friday as it organised GNI Innovation Forum here. "We'll also collaborate with newsrooms and academic institutions to create a best practices handbook and produce free online training on how to use AI in the newsroom for journalists worldwide," informed Matt Cooke, Head of Partnerships and Training, Google News Lab. After testing with partners over the last two years, Google also introduced a new tool called Google Earth Studio which is an animation tool for Google Earth's satellite and 3D imagery.

Can I trust you more? Model-Agnostic Hierarchical Explanations
Tsang, Michael, Sun, Youbang, Ren, Dongxu, Liu, Yan
Interactions such as double negation in sentences and scene interactions in images are common forms of complex dependencies captured by state-of-the-art machine learning models. We propose Mah\'e, a novel approach to provide Model-agnostic hierarchical \'explanations of how powerful machine learning models, such as deep neural networks, capture these interactions as either dependent on or free of the context of data instances. Specifically, Mah\'e provides context-dependent explanations by a novel local interpretation algorithm that effectively captures any-order interactions, and obtains context-free explanations through generalizing context-dependent interactions to explain global behaviors. Experimental results show that Mah\'e obtains improved local interaction interpretations over state-of-the-art methods and successfully explains interactions that are context-free.
Learning Predictive Models That Transport
Subbaswamy, Adarsh, Schulam, Peter, Saria, Suchi
Classical supervised learning produces unreliable models when training and target distributions differ, with most existing solutions requiring samples from the target domain. We propose a proactive approach which learns a relationship in the training domain that will generalize to the target domain by incorporating prior knowledge of aspects of the data generating process that are expected to differ as expressed in a causal selection diagram. Specifically, we remove variables generated by unstable mechanisms from the joint factorization to yield the Graph Surgery Estimator---an interventional distribution that is invariant to the differences across domains. We prove that the surgery estimator finds stable relationships in strictly more scenarios than previous approaches which only consider conditional relationships, and demonstrate this in simulated experiments. We also evaluate on real world data for which the true causal diagram is unknown, performing competitively against entirely data-driven approaches.
Showbox back online but free movie and TV streaming app could endanger people who try to use it
Showbox, a mysterious app that allows people to watch new films and TV shows for free, is back after a strange outage. But the circumstances around that return is largely unknown, and anyone trying to use the popular app might be endangering themselves and their computer. Showbox is a hugely popular app that allows for a Netflix-like experience but includes apparently torrented versions of new movies and TV shows. More specifically, there appears to be a number of versions of the app, all of which present themselves as the legitimate app. The service stopped working recently, prompting concerns that the service might have been taken down entirely – but it seems to have emerged once again.
