ICAART 2020: 12th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (Valletta, Malta - February 22-24, 2020) - ResearchAndMarkets.com

#artificialintelligence

The "ICAART 2020 12th International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence" conference has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering. With the help of artificial intelligence-powered services and tools, the heritage sector is working towards the next level of access to and (re)use of digitized collections. In recent years libraries, archives and museums have started to apply machine learning and advanced knowledge bases to contextually enrich digitized objects, audio-visual content, and texts and to make these retrievable in novel ways. In doing so institutions aim to increase the impact of their collections among a growing and diversifying audience. This special session welcomes papers that reflect upon, discuss and present the technical and societal challenges (e.g.

Most Deepfakes Are Porn, and They're Multiplying Fast

#artificialintelligence

In November 2017, a Reddit account called deepfakes posted pornographic clips made with software that pasted the faces of Hollywood actresses over those of the real performers. Nearly two years later, deepfake is a generic noun for video manipulated or fabricated with artificial intelligence software. The technique has drawn laughs on YouTube, along with concern from lawmakers fearful of political disinformation. Yet a new report that tracked the deepfakes circulating online finds they mostly remain true to their salacious roots. Startup Deeptrace took a kind of deepfake census during June and July to inform its work on detection tools it hopes to sell to news organizations and online platforms.

Microsoft Used Machine Learning to Make a Bot That Comments on News Articles For Some Reason

#artificialintelligence

The social internet has a bot problem. Fake accounts plague Twitter and Facebook, and content designed to misinform readers has become an issue that's drawn the attention of Congress. This difficult and growing problem hasn't stopped a team of researchers from creating an algorithm that can parse news stories, then bicker with real humans in the comments section. Engineers at Beihang University and Microsoft China developed a bot that reads and comments on online news articles. They call their model "DeepCom," short for "deep commenter."

Google will start transcribing audio recordings again

#artificialintelligence

Google is restarting a practice in which human contractors listen to and transcribe some voice commands people give to the company's artificial intelligence system, Assistant. But this time Google is taking steps to make sure people know what they are agreeing to. The company suspended its transcription practices after more than 1,000 Dutch-language recordings were leaked to the media in Belgium this summer. Google required users to opt-in to the service before audio transcriptions were recorded, but critics have said people didn't fully understand they were agreeing to allow human transcribers to listen in because the company's language was unclear. Amazon, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook have all used similar practices.
