World's first AI news anchor makes China debut
Sign in to report inappropriate content. The world's first artificial intelligence (AI) news anchor made "his" debut at the ongoing fifth World Internet Conference in east China's Zhejiang Province. The news anchor, based on the latest AI technology, has a male image with a voice, facial expressions and actions of a real person. "He" learns from live broadcasting videos by himself and can read texts as naturally as a professional news anchor.

We present a new approach to modeling sequential data: the deep equilibrium model (DEQ). Motivated by an observation that the hidden layers of many existing deep sequence models converge towards some fixed point, we propose the DEQ approach that directly finds these equilibrium points via root-finding. Such a method is equivalent to running an infinite depth (weight-tied) feedforward network, but has the notable advantage that we can analytically backpropagate through the equilibrium point using implicit differentiation. Using this approach, training and prediction in these networks require only constant memory, regardless of the effective "depth" of the network. We demonstrate how DEQs can be applied to two state-of-the-art deep sequence models: self-attention transformers and trellis networks.
China to ban "fake news" that contains artificial intelligence or deepfakes
China's history of censoring the internet and using propaganda to give its citizens a false sense of reality is well documented. And now, Chinese regulators have announced new rules that will allow them to further dictate what citizens perceive as reality. From January 1, 2020, publishing and distributing what the regulators deem to be "fake news" created with artificial intelligence (AI), deep learning, or virtual reality (VR) will be banned. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) added that content produced with AI, deep learning, or VR will need to be clearly labeled when these new rules come into effect. Failure to label such content under the new rules could be a criminal offense.

Instead of cutting marketing budgets, Diageo decides to invest in marketing but to remove inefficient expenditures, and thus improve profits by shifting money investments. Two years ago, the company launched the platform Catalyst, whose main goal is to provide instant data to marketeers and help them create investment-worthy strategies. According to Diageo's global marketing effectiveness director, Adam Ben-Yousef, they have "achieved a more profound shift at the highest level in the belief in marketing investment. Marketing is no longer the first spend to be cut when a market wants to deliver its annual plan." It does that by solving issues and helping companies reach customer satisfaction.
An Epidemic of AI Misinformation
Maybe every paper abstract should have a mandatory field of what the limitations of the proposed approach are. That way some of the science miscommunications and hypes could maybe be avoided. The media is often tempted to report each tiny new advance in a field, be it AI or nanotechnology, as a great triumph that will soon fundamentally alter our world. Occasionally, of course, new discoveries are underreported. The transistor did not make huge waves when it was first introduced, and few people initially appreciated the full potential of the Internet.
