Five ways to bring a UX lens to your AI project โ€“ TechCrunch

#artificialintelligence

As AI and machine-learning tools become more pervasive and accessible, product and engineering teams across all types of organizations are developing innovative, AI-powered products and features. AI is particularly well-suited for pattern recognition, prediction and forecasting, and the personalization of user experience, all of which are common in organizations that deal with data. A precursor to applying AI is data -- lots and lots of it! Large data sets are generally required to train an AI model, and any organization that has large data sets will no doubt face challenges that AI can help solve. Alternatively, data collection may be "phase one" of AI product development if data sets don't yet exist.

Creepy Apollo 11 Nixon deepfake video created by MIT to show dangers of high-tech misinformation

FOX News

Fox News Flash top headlines are here. Check out what's clicking on Foxnews.com. Scientists at MIT have digitally manipulated video and audio to create a creepy deepfake of President Nixon "delivering" a speech that would have been used in the event of an Apollo 11 disaster. Written in 1969, the contingency speech was to be used if NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were unable to return from the moon. The video is part of a project entitled "In Event of Moon Disaster" that aims to highlight the dangers of deepfakes, which use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to create false, but realistic-looking clips.

You can finally stream Netflix on a Google Nest Hub or Hub Max smart display

PCWorld

The Google smart display in your kitchen or bedroom is perfect for watching YouTube TV, Hulu, or casting Disney, but up until now, it hasn't been able to play video from the most popular streaming service on the planet: Netflix. Google just announced that its Google Nest Hub and Hub Max will be the first smart displays to support Netflix. Google says that Netflix on the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max will start rolling out today, and it will be supported anywhere that Netflix and the two Google smart displays are available. To watch Netflix on your Nest Hub or Hub Max, just go to the Google Home app and link your Netflix account. You can do so by tapping the " " button in the top-left corner of the Google Home interface and selecting Video under the Add services heading.

QC Ware Races Ahead With Breakthrough in Quantum Machine Learning Algorithms

#artificialintelligence

"QC Ware estimates that with Forge Data Loaders, the industry's 10-to-15-year timeline for practical applications of QML will be reduced significantly," said Yianni Gamvros, Head of Product and Business Development at QC Ware. "What our algorithms team has achieved for the quantum computing industry is equivalent to a quantum hardware manufacturer introducing a chip that is 10 to 100 times faster than their previous offering. This exciting development will require business analysts to update their quad charts and innovation scouts to adjust their technology timelines." Apart from the Forge Data Loaders, the latest release of Forge includes tools for GPU acceleration, which allows algorithms testing to be completed in seconds versus hours, and turnkey algorithms implementations on a choice of simulators and quantum hardware. Quantum hardware integrations include D-Wave Systems, and IonQ and Rigetti architectures through Amazon Braket.

Microsoft cuts MSN news staffers in move toward AI editors

#artificialintelligence

Microsoft cut dozens of full-time staffers from its MSN news service, continuing an initiative to move away from human editors in favor of artificial intelligence. The change comes six weeks after the technology giant told about 50 news production contractors their tenures at MSN would not last beyond June 30. A Microsoft spokesperson told The Seattle Times the company eliminated "a small number" of roles Monday across various departments, including MSN, but would not provide specific numbers. Since 2014, MSN has whittled down its original news-gathering operation, instead partnering with other news sites and paying them to redistribute their content. The Guardian reported that the company's AI software in early June confused two mixed-race singers from the British band Little Mix.
