Industry body CII today said it has set up a forum on artificial intelligence (AI) that will prioritise four sectors for the current year. Headed by IBM's regional head Sandip Patel, the forum also interacted with NITI Aayog senior adviser Anna Roy on the government's efforts to enhance the use of technology, while also focusing on the use of AI for public good. The four sectors which have been prioritised are banking and financial services industries, retail, social (healthcare) and manufacturing (automotive). The forum will seek to build a strong AI ecosystem by building awareness, skilling and re-skilling the workforce, helping shape a conducive policy and regulatory regime, and encouraging public-private partnerships in R&D, said a CII statement. "The transformational potential of responsible AI-driven solutions can be used to fuel India's growth story in a big way as the economy moves into the recovery and revival phase," said the forum's chief Patel.

You might be familiar with the idea of adversarial examples in computer vision. My group has been researching adversarial examples in NLP for some time and recently developed TextAttack, a library for generating adversarial examples in NLP. The library is coming along quite well, but I've been facing the same question from people over and over: What are adversarial examples in NLP? Even people with extensive experience with adversarial examples in computer vision have a hard time understanding, at first glance, what types of adversarial examples exist for NLP. We wrote an article to try and answer this question, unpack some jargon, and introduce people to the idea of robustness in NLP models.

A new AI-powered tool can show you how much screen time different public figures and topics are getting on TV. Stanford University researchers created the system to increase transparency around editorial decisions, by analyzing who's getting coverage and what they're talking about. "By letting researchers, journalists, and the public quantitatively measure who and what is in the news, the tool can help identify biases and trends in cable TV news coverage," said project leader Maneesh Agrawala. Normally, monitoring organizations and newsrooms rely on painstaking manual counting to find out who and what's getting screen time. But the Stanford Cable TV News Analyzer uses computer vision to calculates this automatically. The AI then shows what people are discussing by synchronizing the video with transcripts of their speech.

The 1994 action movie Double Dragon, based on the 1987 beat-em-up arcade game, is a surprisingly enjoyable low-budget romp. Science fiction author Zach Chapman says it reminds him of old favorites such as Surf Ninjas and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
