Use of Variational Inference in Music Emotion Recognition

arXiv.org Machine Learning

This work was developed aiming to employ Statistical techniques to the field of Music Emotion Recognition, a well-recognized area within the Signal Processing world, but hardly explored from the statistical point of view. Here, we opened several possibilities within the field, applying modern Bayesian Statistics techniques and developing efficient algorithms, focusing on the applicability of the results obtained. Although the motivation for this project was the development of a emotion-based music recommendation system, its main contribution is a highly adaptable multivariate model that can be useful interpreting any database where there is an interest in applying regularization in an efficient manner. Broadly speaking, we will explore what role a sound theoretical statistical analysis can play in the modeling of an algorithm that is able to understand a well-known database and what can be gained with this kind of approach.

His relevant technical background, holding a Ph.D. in A.I. and a Honda Post-Doctoral AI Fellowship award from Tokyo University, has allowed him to help companies embrace new and emerging Machine Learning, Deep Learning and cognitive technologies which enable transformative changes to create a competitive advantage.

Journalism and machine learning: a poweful tool for investigations

#artificialintelligence

First of all, let's make one thing clear: this post will not be about mystical or magical processes, nor about artificial intelligence. Instead, it will be about algorithms, data analysis, scraping, cleaning, etc. All of this with the aim of helping journalists to investigate. Machine learning (ML) can be useful to journalists in their investigations, especially when they have to analyze a huge amount of data. To better understand how, here are four concrete (and inspiring) examples. Following them, I draw some lessons and recommendations on how journalists can use ML and I add links to other examples (not detailed here) to discover.

Artificial Intelligence Leader DataRobot to Host Morgantown Job Fair Tuesday, 6/13

#artificialintelligence

DataRobot, the leader in Artificial Intelligence, will host a public job fair from 3-7 p.m. at Morgantown's Erickson Alumni Center on Tuesday, July 13th. In June, DataRobot announced the opening of a new office at Vantage Ventures Morgantown headquarters. The company plans to bring new jobs in the fast growing technology sector to West Virginia through expanded hiring in software engineering, professional services, and customer support. Sally Embrey, DataRobot's vice president of public health and medical technologies, said she is excited the company has the opportunity to help create new careers in the Mountain State and is looking forward to a long-term presence in the region. "Last month's announcement of DataRobot's new Morgantown office has created significant interest in our company both locally and throughout West Virginia. We hope that Tuesday's job fair will help build upon the momentum created by the announcement and showcase the talent available to support technology jobs in the state," Embrey said.

Ethics and Transparency: How We Can Reach Trusted AI

#artificialintelligence

In popular fiction, artificial intelligence (AI) often goes rogue. Arthur C Clarke's soft-spoken HAL 9000 in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" turns sinister, killing astronauts on a mission to Jupiter. Remember Skynet, the antagonist with genocidal goals from James Cameron's movies "The Terminator" and "Judgment Day"? Fiction now seems to be spilling over into real life. AI has run amok and been benched in multiple business deployments. In one instance, an AI had to be shut off after it spewed outrageously lewd and racist comments within 16 hours of being launched because of data poisoning.

Winner of the 2021 AI Song Contest announced!

AIHub

On 6 July, the organisers of the AI Song Contest revealed the winner of this year's competition. Team M.O.G.I.I.7.E.D. Song Listen to Your Body Choir Team members Jon Gillick, Max Savage, Matt Sims, Brodie Jenkins The team wrote here about their song, and how they used AI in the composition process. The song is based on Daisy Bell (composed by Harry Dacre in 1892), which was the first song to be sung by a computer. The team used language model GPT-2 to generate the lyrics, and recurring neural networks (RNN) to create the melody, other samples, and drum loops.

7 Great Examples of Artificial Intelligence in Daily Life

#artificialintelligence

The term Artificial Intelligence (AI) may conjure up images of futuristic robots and scenes from movies like The Matrix. While some highly sophisticated applications of AI still feel as though they belong to a distant future, Artificial Intelligence is in fact already all around us in daily life. Through AI technology, machines are trained to evaluate stimuli in an intentional and intelligent manner, adapt to it, and make decisions. And according to McKinsey & Company's 2020 global survey on the State of AI, over half of organizations are already using AI to facilitate at least one business function. In truth, the vast majority of us are already interacting with Artificial Intelligence every day.
