In 2021, recent innovations in machine learning have made a great deal of tasks more feasible, efficient, and precise than ever before. Based on analysis of MobiDev's AI team experience, we have listed the latest innovations in machine learning to benefit businesses in 2021-2022: Trend 1. TinyML It can take time for a web request to send data to a large server for it to be processed by a machine learning algorithm and then sent back. Instead, a more desirable approach might be to use ML programs on edge devices - we can achieve lower latency, lower power consumption, lower required bandwidth, and ensure user privacy. Trend 2. AutoML Auto-ML brings improved data labeling tools to the table and enables the possibility of automatic tuning of neural network architectures. Evgeniy Krasnokutsky PhD, AI/ML Solution Architect at MobiDev, explains: "Traditionally, data labeling has been done manually by outsourced labor. This brings in a great deal of risk due to human error. Since AutoML aptly automates much of the labeling process, the risk of human error is much lower."


A team of computer scientists and musicologists have finally completed Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony

When Ludwig von Beethoven died in 1827, he was three years removed from the completion of his Ninth Symphony, a work heralded by many as his magnum opus. He had started work on his 10th Symphony but, due to deteriorating health, wasn't able to make much headway: All he left behind were some musical sketches. Ever since then, Beethoven fans and musicologists have puzzled and lamented over what could have been. His notes teased at some magnificent reward, albeit one that seemed forever out of reach. Now, thanks to the work of a team of music historians, musicologists, composers and computer scientists, Beethoven's vision will come to life.

From my research, we don't have all the answers to this complex question yet, but what we have are many innovators, academics, researchers shaping the answer to this question that will enable richer immersive digital learning experiences – and others that bringing grandma back to life – and persisting forever – may feel positively therapeutic to ease a deep grief, or feel like you are immersed in a Stephen King movie.

The primary guitar used by Johnny Ramone, on each of the Ramones records and at nearly 2,000 shows over the band's career, sold for $937,500 at auction this weekend. The 1965 Mosrite Ventures II electric guitar sold to an unnamed buyer in the U.S. in bidding on the Ramones and Punk Collection of Daniel Rey hosted by RR Auction. "The consignor was thrilled with the results and is very happy that the guitar is in the hands of someone who will curate Johnny Ramone's Mosrite for future generations to enjoy," said Bobby Livingston, executive VP at RR Auction. It was played at every Ramones performance until his retirement: from November 1977 through August 1996, for about 1,985 shows. The fretboard shows an incredible amount of wear from his aggressive down-stroke playing style.

'Chilling': Facial recognition firm Clearview AI hits watchdog groups with subpoenas

Clearview AI, the controversial facial recognition company that scrapes public images from social media to aid law enforcement probes, has subpoenaed internal documents from some of the groups that first exposed its activities. The firm served subpoenas in August to civil society coalition Open The Government, its policy analyst Freddy Martinez and the police accountability nonprofit that he'd previously founded, Lucy Parsons Labs -- demanding any correspondence they'd had with journalists about Clearview and its leaders, as well as information they'd uncovered about the company and its founders in public records requests, over the last four years. The subpoenas, obtained by POLITICO, could draw the groups into lengthy court battles and, they argue, dissuade others from taking on Clearview or other companies working on potentially problematic technologies.


Entity Linking Meets Deep Learning: Techniques and Solutions

Entity linking (EL) is the process of linking entity mentions appearing in web text with their corresponding entities in a knowledge base. EL plays an important role in the fields of knowledge engineering and data mining, underlying a variety of downstream applications such as knowledge base population, content analysis, relation extraction, and question answering. In recent years, deep learning (DL), which has achieved tremendous success in various domains, has also been leveraged in EL methods to surpass traditional machine learning based methods and yield the state-of-the-art performance. In this survey, we present a comprehensive review and analysis of existing DL based EL methods. First of all, we propose a new taxonomy, which organizes existing DL based EL methods using three axes: embedding, feature, and algorithm. Then we systematically survey the representative EL methods along the three axes of the taxonomy. Later, we introduce ten commonly used EL data sets and give a quantitative performance analysis of DL based EL methods over these data sets. Finally, we discuss the remaining limitations of existing methods and highlight some promising future directions.

I presided over the artificial intelligence side of the project, leading a group of scientists at the creative A.I. startup Playform AI that taught a machine both Beethoven's entire body of work and his creative process.
