Sky Glass review: streaming TV not quite ready for prime time
Glass is Sky's new voice-controlled streaming television โ an ambitious attempt to ditch the satellite dish and provide pay TV straight to the screen, with no set top box required. The television comes in three sizes starting at ยฃ649 for a 43in screen, or ยฃ13 a month over four years, which works out at ยฃ25 cheaper too. Glass is a heavy beast, the 55in version weighs 28kg with its stand โ about 10kg more than a standard 55in TV โ but hides its bulk well from the front. The body is aluminium in a choice of five colours, and houses the built-in soundbar below the screen, making it look a bit like Apple's iMac. The 4K LCD screen ticks most of the specifications boxes.

Active Learning Meets Optimized Item Selection

Designing recommendation systems with limited or no available training data remains a challenge. To that end, a new combinatorial optimization problem is formulated to generate optimized item selection for experimentation with the goal to shorten the time for collecting randomized training data. We first present an overview of the optimized item selection problem and a multi-level optimization framework to solve it. The approach integrates techniques from discrete optimization, unsupervised clustering, and latent text embeddings. We then discuss how to incorporate optimized item selection with active learning as part of randomized exploration in an ongoing fashion.

How artificial intelligence is hijacking art history
People tend to rejoice in the disclosure of a secret. Or, at the very least, media outlets have come to realize that news of "mysteries solved" and "hidden treasures revealed" generate traffic and clicks. So I'm never surprised when I see AI-assisted revelations about famous masters' works of art go viral. Over the past year alone, I've come across articles highlighting how artificial intelligence recovered a "secret" painting of a "lost lover" of Italian painter Modigliani, "brought to life" a "hidden Picasso nude", "resurrected" Austrian painter Gustav Klimt's destroyed works and "restored" portions of Rembrandt's 1642 painting "The Night Watch."The As an art historian, I've become increasingly concerned about the coverage and circulation of these projects.

Questions naturally arise regarding the application and the future of artificial intelligence.
