Dubbing, where recordings in other languages are lip-synced and mixed with a show's original soundtrack, is an exploding business. One localization platform, Zoo Digital, saw revenues jump by 73% to $28.6 million in July 2018 compared to the year prior. Another, BTI Studios, told Television Business International that dubbing grew from 3% of its revenue in 2010 to 61% in 2019. According to Verified Market Research, the film dubbing market alone could reach $3.6 billion in worth by 2027, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 5.6% from 2020. But barriers stand in the way of expansion.

While customer onboarding and risk detection are the primary uses of AI cited by 29% of respondents, data management and customer insights are the most common use cases. "Data is becoming ever more important as organizations increasingly digitize," said Vishal Marria, CEO and founder of Quantexa (which conducted the survey). "However, these huge waves of data often lead to decision gaps that plague organizations, leaving them unable to extract meaningful value. AI and technological advances such as entity resolution are helping close this data decision gap in a strategic and measured way, allowing organizations to connect siloed data to create a meaningful connected view, that directly leads to higher accuracy, productivity and ultimately trusted decision making." Data readiness, integrating internal/external data sources (15%), making AI operational (14%) and the availability of skills (14%) are reported as the biggest challenges in adopting AI in financial services firms.

GPT-1 was released on June 11, 2018. When this model was released by OpenAI, there was much excitement. It was the transformer structure combined with unsupervised pre-training with promising results. The key difference between GPT-1 and the other language-based models before it, is that it was fine-tuned, or trained for specific tasks. GPT-2 was introduced in February 2019.

"After Yang," the second feature by Kogonada, takes place in a speculative future that looks uncannily like our listless present, with holograph-like phone calls that resemble Zoom and domestic interiors that could have been lifted from an Architectural Digest slide show.
