Fake News Classification with Keras - Analytics Vidhya

Batch normalization is implemented (if desired) as outlined in the original paper that introduced it, i.e. after the Dense linear transformation but before the non-linear (ReLU) activation. The output layer is just a standard Dense layer with 1 neuron and a sigmoid activation function (that squishes predictions to between 0 and 1), such that our model is ultimately predicting 0 or 1, fake or true. Batch normalization can help speed up training and provides a mild regularizing effect. Both the Keras- and spaCy-embedded models will take a good amount of time to train, but ultimately we'll end up with something that we can evaluate on our test data with. Overall, the Keras-embedded model performed betterโ€“ achieving a test accuracy of 99.1% vs the spaCy model's 94.8%.

DALL-E Mini Is the Internet's Favorite AI Meme Machine

WIRED

On June 6, Hugging Face, a company that hosts open source artificial intelligence projects, saw traffic to an AI image-generation tool called DALL-E Mini skyrocket. The outwardly simple app, which generates nine images in response to any typed text prompt, was launched nearly a year ago by an independent developer. But after some recent improvements and a few viral tweets, its ability to crudely sketch all manner of surreal, hilarious, and even nightmarish visions suddenly became meme magic. As more people created and shared DALL-E Mini images on Twitter and Reddit, and more new users arrived, Hugging Face saw its servers overwhelmed with traffic. "Our engineers didn't sleep for the first night," says Clรฉment Delangue, CEO of Hugging Face, on a video call from his home in Miami.

The Weird, Analog Delights of Foley Sound Effects

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from. The salvage yard at M. Maselli & Sons, in Petaluma, California, is made up of six acres of angle irons, block pulleys, doorplates, digging tools, motors, fencing, tubing, reels, spools, and rusted machinery. To the untrained eye, the place is a testament to the enduring power of American detritus, but to Foley artists--craftspeople who create custom sound effects for film, television, and video games--it's a trove of potential props. On a recent morning, Shelley Roden and John Roesch, Foley artists who work at Skywalker Sound, the postproduction audio division of Lucasfilm, stood in the parking lot, considering the sonic properties of an enormous industrial hopper. "I'm looking for a resonator, and I need more ka-chunkers," Roden, who is blond and in her late forties, said.

Does this AI know it's alive?

#artificialintelligence

We don't have much reason to think that they have an internal monologue, the kind of sense perception humans have, or an awareness that they're a being in the world. Over the weekend, the Washington Post's Nitasha Tiku published a profile of Blake Lemoine, a software engineer assigned to work on the Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA) project at Google. LaMDA is a chatbot AI, and an example of what machine learning researchers call a "large language model," or even a "foundation model." It's similar to OpenAI's famous GPT-3 system, and has been trained on literally trillions of words compiled from online posts to recognize and reproduce patterns in human language. LaMDA is a really good large language model.
