Museums get Creative with 3D Interactive Holographic Technology

#artificialintelligence

What questions would you ask of your favorite deceased artist or head of state? Museums use all kinds of technology to keep viewers and especially children engaged in history. Artificial intelligence is the next tool in the museum canon and is an ideal place for 3D holograms. For one, museums have the funding to collaborate and create an interactive avatar that is both educational and a popular ticket-selling attraction. The Museum of Art and Photography in Bangalore has collaborated with Accenture Labs to create a digital twin of painter M.F.

Will Artificial Intelligence Learn Morals?

#artificialintelligence

In 2002, I waited more than ten minutes to download a single song using a 56k dial-up modem. Audio cassettes were still very much in vogue. Fast forward to 2022, and one can now instruct their phone or car to play their favorite tracks using their voice. We can sign into our favorite music streaming service automatically, and it shows us the music and artists that may fit depending on the mood, the time or the occasion. One can automate nearly all electrical systems in their house to operate on their schedule (remind them to get groceries, switch on lights when they enter, etc.).

Repair Old Photographs with GFP-GAN Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Remember those old faded and cracked photographs that your parents and grandparents occasionally brought out of boxes to share stories of family past? You stared at the younger version of your grandmother or the dead uncles and aunts that you never met, some with their faces blurred out by inferior technology or with chemicals and paper erased by the ravishes of time. For photographers like me, Photoshop could digitally repair and replicate missing information but it could take time and if the photograph was badly damaged then copying pixels could lose detail. To address these annoying problems, a newly-released artificial intelligence model called the Generative Facial Prior-Generative Adversarial Network (GFP-GAN) repairs old photographs in mere seconds, including low resolution. The name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and may need a bit of tweaking for commercial purposes by the Chinese tech company Tencent developers.

Swedish gaming giant buys Lord of the Rings and Hobbit rights

The Guardian

The company that owns the rights to JRR Tolkien's works, including The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, has been bought by the Swedish gaming firm Embracer Group, which has hinted it could make spin-off films based on popular characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn and Gollum. Embracer has acquired Middle-earth Enterprises, the holding company that controls the intellectual property rights to films, video games, board games, merchandise, theme parks and stage productions relating to Tolkien's two most famous literary franchises. The deal also includes "matching rights" in other Middle-earth-related literary works authorised by the Tolkien Estate and HarperCollins – primarily The Silmarillion and The Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-earth – which were published after Tolkien's death in 1973. When the business was put up for sale by the Saul Zaentz Company, which acquired its rights from the heirs and estate of Tolkien and HarperCollins in 1976, it was expected that Amazon would buy it to build its own Middle-earth empire. In 2017, Amazon paid $250m (£208m) for the rights to make a big budget prequel to Lord of the Rings, called Rings of Power, which is to have a global release on its Prime Video service on 2 September.
