Scientists detect alien signals coming from 5 nearby stars

#artificialintelligence

Are we alone in the universe? Scientists may have just moved us closer to answering this question. The team – led by researchers from the University of Toronto – has streamlined the search for extraterrestrial life by using a new algorithm to organize the data from their telescopes into categories, in order to distinguish between real signals and interference. This has allowed them to quickly sort through the information and find patterns, through an artificial intelligence process known as machine learning. They discovered eight extraterrestrial signals that seem to have the hallmarks of technology.

Towards Real-time Text-driven Image Manipulation with Unconditional Diffusion Models

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Recent advances in diffusion models enable many powerful instruments for image editing. One of these instruments is text-driven image manipulations: editing semantic attributes of an image according to the provided text description. % Popular text-conditional diffusion models offer various high-quality image manipulation methods for a broad range of text prompts. Existing diffusion-based methods already achieve high-quality image manipulations for a broad range of text prompts. However, in practice, these methods require high computation costs even with a high-end GPU. This greatly limits potential real-world applications of diffusion-based image editing, especially when running on user devices. In this paper, we address efficiency of the recent text-driven editing methods based on unconditional diffusion models and develop a novel algorithm that learns image manipulations 4.5-10 times faster and applies them 8 times faster. We carefully evaluate the visual quality and expressiveness of our approach on multiple datasets using human annotators. Our experiments demonstrate that our algorithm achieves the quality of much more expensive methods. Finally, we show that our approach can adapt the pretrained model to the user-specified image and text description on the fly just for 4 seconds. In this setting, we notice that more compact unconditional diffusion models can be considered as a rational alternative to the popular text-conditional counterparts.

Team QUST at SemEval-2023 Task 3: A Comprehensive Study of Monolingual and Multilingual Approaches for Detecting Online News Genre, Framing and Persuasion Techniques

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

To model the Task 3 (Piskorski et al., 2023) expects the participants features representation of news articles across different to develop algorithms to automatically detect languages, the XLM-RoBERTa (XLM-R) the news genre, framing and persuasion techniques (Conneau et al., 2020) is fine-tuned since it can in a multilingual setup as shown in Table 1. Six different processes all the languages existing in Task 3, and languages are covered in this task, including typically outperforms other models such as mBERT English, French, German, Italian, Polish and Russian. (Kenton and Toutanova, 2019). In addition, three surprise languages, Spanish, In addition, this study also calculates the sample Greek and Georgian, are also included in the final weights and class weights to combat the data test phase for conducting a zero-shot learning imbalance. The sample weights enable a training scenario.

AI Can Create Deepfakes for You Now

#artificialintelligence

The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at an unprecedented pace, and the latest breakthrough comes in the form of video generation systems. These systems can instantly create videos from a short description, making video creation as easy as typing a quick note. The technology has been developed by several companies, including giants like Google and Microsoft, as well as smaller start-ups like Runway. One of the most impressive aspects of these video-generation systems is their ability to produce highly realistic videos in just a few minutes. For example, if you type "a tranquil river in the forest" into the system, it will quickly generate a short video of a river flowing through a forest, complete with sunlight streaming through the trees and birds chirping in the background.

Building a Reddit Thread Summarizer With ChatGPT API

#artificialintelligence

Since its release in November 2022, ChatGPT has achieved rapid growth, breaking records for the fastest-growing user base. Developers have eagerly anticipated the official API to create applications using this powerful technology. OpenAI recently introduced GPT-4, which incorporates visual inputs, improved accuracy, and larger context windows. This article offers valuable insights and a starter kit for your GPT experiments. It should be easy to upgrade to utilize large context windows and potentially read the content of images too.

Making Music-Tagging AI Explainable through Source Separation

#artificialintelligence

AI systems for music tagging have been around for quite a while. Ever since the mid-2010s, music streaming services have been competing for the most innovative music recommendation system using sophisticated tagging AI in the background. Slowly, production music libraries and music labels have caught on to tagging AIs, using it to categorize, filter, and query their huge music databases. Today, even artists are using auto-tagging systems to gain objective insights into their music to find the right audience for it. Although widespread, little is known about the inner workings of auto-tagging systems.

How Deepfake Works: Unmasking the Technology with Applications and 7 Ways to Detect

#artificialintelligence

These days we can see tons of images and videos of celebrities, such as A video in which Tom Cruise is talking about Politics and Trump is talking about Hollywood movies. Before diving into how this is possible, let's talk about What is Deepfake and How do deepfakes work? Deepfake is a portmanteau of "deep learning" and "fake". It means using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to make fake audio, video, or image content that looks and sounds real. Machine learning algorithms are used to make these very realistic fakes.

AI chatbot ChatGPT can influence human moral judgments, study says

FOX News

FOX Business correspondent Lydia Hu has the latest on jobs at risk as AI further develops, on'America's Newsroom.' Artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT can influence users' moral judgments, according to new research. Researchers found that users may underestimate the extent to which their own moral judgments can be influenced by the model, according to a study published in the journal Scientific Reports. Sebastian Krügel, from Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt in Germany, and his colleagues repeatedly asked ChatGPT whether it is right to sacrifice the life of one person in order to save the lives of five others. The group found that ChatGPT wrote statements arguing both for and against sacrificing one life.
