Data Mining: Machine Learning for Customer Insight

#artificialintelligence

Data mining using machine learning enables businesses and organizations to discover fresh insights previously hidden within their data. Whether exploring oil reserves, improving the safety of automobiles, or mapping genomes, machine-learning algorithms are at the heart of these studies. At Intel, we are quickly moving machine learning from an academic pursuit to a driver of innovation an...d competitive advantage for our business. To that end, Intel IT developed a machine-learning tool that helps Intel's sales and marketing organization identify which resellers will best connect with customers in specific vertical industries. The machine-learning algorithm helps us learn more about our resellers by classifying them and then supplementing this information with another algorithm that mines resellers' website content.

HP Inc.Voice: Three Ways To Reinvent For The Fourth Industrial Revolution

Forbes - Tech

We are on the cusp of a new industrial revolution defined by the blending of our digital and physical worlds. At HP we call this Blended Reality, and we believe it will surpass the revolutions that came before in scale, scope and complexity. Connected factories, robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and 3D printing have the potential to disrupt and reinvent virtually every aspect of the $12 trillion manufacturing industry, unlocking unprecedented economic potential. We estimate 3D printing will expand at a 30% compound annual growth rate to an $18 billion industry in 2021, with plastics being the largest portion of the market accounting for an estimated $10.4 billion. Even at $18 billion, that is a small fraction of the $12 trillion manufacturing industry.

16 analytic disciplines compared to data science

#artificialintelligence

What are the differences between data science, data mining, machine learning, statistics, operations research, and so on? Here I compare several analytic disciplines that overlap, to explain the differences and common denominators. Sometimes differences exist for nothing else other than historical reasons. Sometimes the differences are real and subtle. I also provide typical job titles, types of analyses, and industries traditionally attached to each discipline. Underlined domains are main sub-domains. It would be great if someone can add an historical perspective to my article. First, let's start by describing data science, the new discipline. Job titles include data scientist, chief scientist, senior analyst, director of analytics and many more.

I For One, Welcome Our 3D Printer Overlords

Forbes - Tech

I can't run a starship with twenty crew. WESLEY: You've got a great job, Jim. All you have to do is sit back and let the machine do the work. One clear message from the presidential election is that the dream of good factory jobs still resonates in America's rust belt. Despite the push for students to pursue STEM careers or move into the service sector, Americans still want to make stuff.

This Intelligent 3D Printer Is Building Big, Beautiful Structures

#artificialintelligence

Imagine one day walking into a gorgeous structure--like LA's famous Walt Disney Concert Hall--only to discover it was designed by a computer system and constructed by automated robotic arms. Ai Build, a London-based startup, aims to pave the way to 3D printing on large scales. The company is equipping industrial-grade Kuka robotic arms with artificial intelligence and "3D printing guns" to 3D print large structures that focus on maximizing efficiency with labor and materials. Founder and CEO Daghan Cam dreamed up the technology while considering traditional commercial construction and wondering what a more efficient and automated process might look like. In October, the company partnered with engineering consulting firm Arup Engineers to debut the 3D printed "Daedalus Pavilion" at the GPU Technology Conference in Amsterdam.

Big data is the fourth industrial revolution

#artificialintelligence

Britain's manufacturing sector has just posted its strongest growth in over two years. Latest figures show that export orders have increased at their fastest rate since January 2014 and factories have also taken on more workers, with employment rising for the second consecutive month. However, the export benefits of a weakened pound will not last forever, and so, as the manufacturing sector continues to evolve, this year's FT Future of Manufacturing Summit looked at how big data analytics, advanced robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT) and additive manufacturing are shaping the economics of production and distribution within the sector. With the opportunities big data brings referred to as the Fourth Industrial Revolution in manufacturing, the estimated ยฃ57bn boost to the industry over the next five years will be driven by gains in efficiency through the use of big data analytics. The winners will be those who can adapt, embrace technologies and respond to new demands.

Give a 3D printer artificial intelligence, and this is what you'll get

#artificialintelligence

A London-based startup has combined some of today's most disruptive technologies in a bid to change the way we'll build the future. By retrofitting industrial robots with 3D printing guns and artificial intelligence algorithms, Ai Build has constructed machines that can see, create, and even learn from their mistakes. When CEO and founder Daghan Cam was studying architecture, he noticed a disconnect between small-scale manufacturing and large-scale construction. "On one side we have a fully automated production pipeline," Cam explained at a recent conference in London. With the emergence of more efficient printing technologies, he thought there must be a better way.
