Could YOU fall in love with a robot?

#artificialintelligence

The idea of having sex with a robot might seem more like something out of a science fiction film, but one in five of us are now open to the idea, according to new research. A recent survey found 21 per cent of British people would have sex with a droid, and one in three would go on a date. It comes as a leading expert on future technology claims human-on-robot sex will be more common than human-on-human sex by 2050. The survey was done VoucherCodesPro who asked 2,816 sexually active Brits aged 18 to describe which activities they would then carry out with a cyborg. Researchers asked those participants who said they would have sex with a robot why they would do it.

Singularity is Near... 2016 Documentary

#artificialintelligence

The technological singularity is a hypothetical event in which artificial general intelligence (constituting, for example, intelligent computers, computer networks, or robots) would be capable of recursive self-improvement (progressively redesigning itself), or of autonomously building ever smarter and more powerful machines than itself, up to the point of a runaway effect--an intelligence explosion--that yields an intelligence surpassing all current human control or understanding. Because the capabilities of such a superintelligence may be impossible for a human to comprehend, the technological singularity is the point beyond which events may become unpredictable or even unfathomable to human intelligence. The future of artificial intelligence in FinTech

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence created by machines or software. The artificial intelligence and robotics market was worth US 10.7 billion in 2014 and is expected to be worth US 153 billion by 2020, and to have a disruptive impact of between US 14 to US 33 trillion. The component for artificial intelligence alone is worth US 70 billion. There are perils with artificial intelligence. Don't let anyone tell you there aren't.

Robots Are Taking Divorce Lawyers' Jobs Too

#artificialintelligence

The headline isn't mine โ€“ it was from Bloomberg (I think'robots' sell). The article is really talking about online dispute resolution tools powered by artificial intelligence. Most people are familiar with this kind of tool primarily because of eBay. Its site has an automated dispute-resolution tool which settles 60 million claims every year. Now, some countries are deploying similar technology to let people negotiate divorces, landlord-tenant disputes, and other legal conflicts.

TaxProf Blog

Deftr, legal tech company, and Y Combinator Fellowship recipient, today announced the launch of the first AI-powered tool that helps professionals diagram intricate corporate structures. The new product reads text as it is typed in real time, then automatically turns that text into a shareable, interactive graphic illustrating a corporate structure or transaction. Named for the dynamic tax ledger used by the Ottoman Empire, Deftr helps legal and professional service firms focus on high-level, strategic work by leveraging artificial intelligence to automate manual work. From tax law and IRS guidance to corporate structuring and financial regulations, we enable users to navigate legal complexity and understand its practical consequences intuitively, simply, and cheaply. For hundreds of years the Swiss watch had been considered to be the most accurate, trust-worthy and well-designed way of telling the time โ€“ the best way to convey that crucial information to a wearer.

DLA Piper to use artificial intelligence for M&A document review

#artificialintelligence

DLA Piper will use artificial intelligence technology by Kira Systems for due-diligence document review in mergers and acquisitions. Kira's machine-learning software searches texts in contracts, then creates a summary and analysis, according to a press release announcing the deal. Such software is designed to get smarter as it is used. Jonathan Klein, chair of DLA Piper's U.S. mergers and acquisition practice, said in the press release that the technology will make due diligence faster and more efficient, and will mitigate risk throughout the due diligence practice. "We believe that this innovative technology will do for corporate transactional work what e-discovery has done for litigation," he said. DLA Piper already tried the software in its corporate, intellectual property and technology practices.

Weaponized robot used by Dallas police opens ethical debate

The Japan Times

DALLAS/HOUSTON/LOS ANGELES/WASHINGTON โ€“ When Dallas police improvised a bomb-carrying robot to kill a sniper, they also kicked off an ethical debate about technology's use as a crime-fighting weapon. In what appears to be an unprecedented tactic, police rigged a bomb-disposal robot to kill an armed suspect in the fatal shootings of five officers in Dallas. While there doesn't appear to be any hard data on the subject, security experts and law enforcement officials said they couldn't recall another time when police deployed a robot with lethal intent. The strategy opens a new chapter in the escalating use of remote-controlled and semi-autonomous devices to fight crime and protect lives. It also raises new questions over when it's appropriate to dispatch a robot to kill dangerous suspects instead of continuing to negotiate their surrender.

Machine learning startup Dato changes name to Turi after trademark battle

#artificialintelligence

Seattle-based machine learning startup Dato, which originally launched as GraphLab, announced today that it has changed its name again. Now, the company is known as Turi, an ode to computer science legend Alan Turing. This past September, Turi -- then Dato -- found itself in a trademark infringement argument with fellow tech startup Datto after Dato changed its name from GraphLab in January 2015. Datto, which has been offering data backup and recovery services from its Connecticut headquarters since 2007, first complained about Dato's new name just weeks after the company finished its rebranding from GraphLab. Datto argued that Dato's new name would cause confusion.
