'Petya' cyber attack targeting 'everyone': How to protect yourself
Cyber security experts are warning that consumers can also be targeted by the ransomware that has affected huge organisations around the world. A new variant of known malware Petya is believed to be behind the chaos, which initially hit Ukraine, before spreading to companies in a number of other countries, including the UK. However, it's not just big businesses that are under threat. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. 'Petya' cyber attack worse than WannaCry hack that crippled NHS, says expert
The'Petya' cyber attack currently spreading around the world could be "bigger" than WannaCry, a cyber security expert says. The ransomware initially hit Ukraine, but the WPP has confirmed that several of its companies have also been affected by it. Naturally, comparisons are being made with WannaCry, the ransomware that so badly affected the NHS in May, but some believe Petya could be worse. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. The giant human-like robot bears a striking resemblance to the military robots starring in the movie'Avatar' and is claimed as a world first by its creators from a South Korean robotic company Waseda University's saxophonist robot WAS-5, developed by professor Atsuo Takanishi and Kaptain Rock playing one string light saber guitar perform jam session A man looks at an exhibit entitled'Mimus' a giant industrial robot which has been reprogrammed to interact with humans during a photocall at the new Design Museum in South Kensington, London Electrification Guru Dr. Wolfgang Ziebart talks about the electric Jaguar I-PACE concept SUV before it was unveiled before the Los Angeles Auto Show in Los Angeles, California, U.S The Jaguar I-PACE Concept car is the start of a new era for Jaguar.
'Petya' cyber attack: List of affected companies shows scale of hack
The'Petya' cyber attack is affecting major companies around the world. The ransomware, which is being likened to WannaCry, which crippled the NHS in May, initially attacked businesses in Ukraine, but has spread to more countries, including Russia and the UK. However, experts have warned against paying the ransom, as doing so could encourage similar attacks in the future. These are the companies and organisations that have confirmed they've been affected by the Petya attack. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.
IBM is telling Congress not to fear the rise of an AI 'overlord'
The brains behind IBM's Jeopardy-winning, disease-tracking, weather-mapping Watson supercomputer plan to embark on a lobbying blitz in Washington, D.C., this week, hoping to show federal lawmakers that artificial intelligence isn't going to kill jobs -- or humans. To hear IBM tell it, much of the recent criticism around machine learning, robotics and other kinds of AI amounts to merely "fear mongering." The company's senior vice president for Watson, David Kenny, aims to convey that message to members of Congress beginning with a letter on Tuesday, stressing the "real disaster would be abandoning or inhibiting cognitive technology before its full potential can be realized." Labor experts and reams of data released in recent months argue otherwise: They foretell vast economic consequences upon the mass-market arrival of AI, as entire industries are displaced -- not just blue-collar jobs like trucking, as self-driving vehicles replace humans at the wheel, but white-collar positions like stock trading too. Others fear the privacy, security and safety implications as more tasks, from managing the country's roads to reading patients' X-ray results, are automated -- and the most dire warnings, from the likes of SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk, include the potential arrival of "robots capable of destroying mankind."
'Petya' cyber attack: WPP goes offline as ransomware spreads
WPP's website is down after a huge cyber attack. The advertising giant has confirmed that a number of its companies have been affected by a hack that initially hit Ukraine, but has now started spreading to other countries around the world, including Spain and India. How the attack began is not yet clear, but there are fears that it could be like the enormous WannaCry attack that locked staff out of NHS computers in May. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.
'Petya' cyber attack: What is this ransomware and is it more dangerous than WannaCry?
A virus is spreading rapidly across the world, shutting down some of the world's biggest companies with apparently no way of stopping it. It would be shocking if it didn't sound so much like the last crippling attack on the internet – Wannacry, which took down the NHS as well as a range of other huge companies just a couple of months ago. And the two appear to have come from the same family. That will come as an extra to worry to IT professionals – in part because the disastrous effects of Wannacry were supposed to have been patched and fixed, and in part because when the virus originally spread it was only stopped by a stroke of luck. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.
'Petya' cyber attack: Chernobyl's radiation monitoring system hit by worldwide hack
The monitoring systems at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant have been broken by a worldwide hack. Systems usually used to monitor the area around the power station – which is still an active and dangerous area following the disaster in 1986 – are not working because of the cyber attack, Ukrainian authorities said. Those areas must now be monitored manually, according to a statement. The entire country of Ukraine is being hit by a sustained cyber attack that has hit some of its most important state and private infrastructure. Though the attack began in the country – and most of the damage is still being done there – it is rapidly spreading across the world, hitting firms across Europe and America.
Snake robots slither into our hearts, literally
The biblical narrative of the Garden of Eden describes how the snake became the most cursed of all beasts: "you shall walk on your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life." The reptile's eternal punishment is no longer feared but embraced for its versatility and flexibility. The snake is fast approaching as one of the most celebrated robotic creatures for roboticists worldwide in out maneuvering rovers and humanoids. Last week, while General Electric experienced a tumult in its management structure, its Aviation unit completed the acquisition of OC Robotics – a leader in serpent arm design. GE stated that it believes OC's robots will be useful for jet engine maintenance, enabling repairs to be conducted while the engine is still attached to the wing by wiggling into parts where no human hand could survive.
Huge 'Petya' cyber attack spreading across the world in potential repeat of 'Wannacry' hack
A huge cyber attack that initially hit Ukraine appears to be spreading across the world. The hack was already the biggest in Ukraine's history when it hit that country. But it appears to be making its way to other countries – including Spain and India – and may be functioning like the massive "Wannacry" attack, according to cyber security experts. The attack is hitting major infrastructure in the countries where it has spread to. That has included companies ranging as widely as Danish shipping company Maersk and British advertising company WPP.
Global cyber attack is a new version of the 'Wannacry' virus that took down the NHS, Ukrainian official says
An adviser to Ukraine's interior minister said a version of the "WannaCry" ransomware had caused outages on government websites and those of several companies, a cyber attack he called the worst in Ukraine's history. The hack began in the country but has since spread across the world, hitting companies as widely as Danish shipping company Maersk and British advertising company WPP, the biggest in the world. Adviser Anton Gerashchenko said Ukrainian IT systems had been targeted with "Cryptolocker" a version of WannaCry, the virus that locked up more than 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries in May. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph.
