Elon Musk: Artificial Intelligence 'Greatest Risk We Face as a Civilization'
Tesla CEO Elon Musk issued a dire warning about artificial intelligence, calling it "the greatest risk we face as a civilization." Speaking at the National Governor's Association, Musk said the government should intervene. "AI's a rare case where we need to be proactive in regulation, instead of reactive. Because by the time we are reactive with AI regulation, it's too late," Musk said. "AI is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization, in a way that car accidents, airplane crashes, faulty drugs, or bad food were not."
Musk: Government needs to regulate artificial intelligence
Tesla will partner with French renewable energy company Neoen to build the 100-megawatt battery farm in South Australia state. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says the government should consider regulations for artificial intelligence because it poses "a fundamental existential risk for human civilization." Musk made the comments over the weekend during the National Governors Association's summer meeting in Providence, R.I. Musk says AI is the "scariest problem" because of its potential to harm humans beyond just disrupting the job market. Musk wants the government to set regulations in place to root out threats early. "AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation than reactive," said Musk. "By the time we're reactive in AI regulation, it's too late."
Elon Musk: Unregulated AI Could Be The "Biggest Risk We Face as a Civilization"
As a guest speaker at the 2017 National Governors Association Summer Meeting, entrepreneur and innovator Elon Musk covered a number of topics, including artificial intelligence (AI). During his talk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO and founder urged the U.S. governors present on Saturday to set up regulations for the development of AI. Musk is very familiar with the topic of AI, as he's spoken about it a number of times. To be clear, he isn't afraid of AI itself. What scares him is what could happen if AI is left unchecked.

How GDPR Affects Data Science
Adapted from a post originally published on the Cloudera VISION Blog. If your organization collects data about citizens of the European Union (EU), you probably already know about the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). GDPR defines and strengthens data protection for consumers and harmonizes data security rules within the EU. The European Parliament approved the measure on April 27, 2016. It goes into effect in less than a year, on May 25, 2018.

An Adorable Floating Robot Is Helping Astronauts on the ISS
Japan's space agency has released photos and videos taken on board the International Space Station (ISS) by its grapefruit-sized robot drone. The drone, called Internal Ball Camera (or Int-Ball), can be maneuvered by controllers and researchers from Earth, according a press release from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The camera-equipped Int-Ball has glowing blue eyes, weighs 2.2 pounds and can move in any direction. It was created to help take videos of astronauts' work and experiments and send them back to the ground. JAXA says the Int-Ball can help cut astronauts' working hours by up to 10%.
The Nine AI Minds You Don't Know, But Should Follow ASAP
While the public is becoming aware of the possibilities of artificial intelligence, I've been evangelizing, researching and working with it for years. As a fellow of the U.S. Council on Competitiveness, a senior advisor to the United Nations Office for Project Services, and a member of both the World Artificial Intelligence Organization and B20, I've been researching AI (and sharing what I learn) for years. Although AI buzz typically surrounds statements from famous minds like Stephen Hawking or Elon Musk -- both of whom rightfully worry about granting sentience to machines that control our way of life -- there are plenty of worthy conversations being had on the subject. NEW YORK, NY - JUNE 16: Director of Facebook AI Research Yann LeCun attends the 2016 Wired Business Conference on June 16, 2016 in New York City. AI also represents cybersecurity's next evolution, both as a threat and a solution. There are critical questions surrounding AI, and Yampolskiy, founder and director of Cybersecurity Lab, is delving into the dark side of it.
Elon Musk says AI is 'the biggest risk we face'
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has warned that regulation of artificial intelligence is needed because it's a'fundamental risk to the existence of human civilisation.' The billionaire said regulations will stop humanity from being outsmarted by computers, or'deep intelligence in the network', that can start wars by manipulating information. Governments must have a better understanding of artificial intelligence technology's rapid evolution in order to fully comprehend the risks, he said. 'Once there is awareness, people will be extremely afraid, as they should be...By the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it'll be too late,' he added. Porn websites could leak everyone's viewing history because of government age check plans, experts warn
Government plans to force age verification checks on pornographic websites could expose everyone's most private internet history, according to experts. The Open Rights Group has warned that the plans could lead to porn companies being forced to create databases of what everyone has watched. And the government is not doing enough to protect that database while pressing ahead with the plans, its executive director Jim Killock has said. "Age verification could lead to porn companies building databases of the UK's porn habits, which could be vulnerable to Ashley Madison style hacks," Mr Killock said. "The Government has repeatedly refused to ensure that there is a legal duty for age verification providers to protect the privacy of web users."
