Photo by Kamal Kishore NEW DELHI: The government is expected to provide incentives for use of frontier technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics in the new industrial policy that is likely to be unveiled soon, sources said. Besides, the industries would also be encouraged to adopt green technologies to promote cleaner environment. The proposed policy, the draft of which has been released by the commerce and industry ministry for consultation with various stakeholders, will completely revamp the Industrial Policy of 1991. The world is talking about industrial revolution 4.0 that includes artificial intelligence, robotics, deep learning and Internet of Things and incentives and there is a need to promote adoption of these modern technologies, which are capital intensive, according to government sources. "The ministry is holding consultation with states also on the new policy to see their best practices. It will be released soon," they added.


Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Their Role in Cybersecurity

Artificial intelligence, as its name states can "learn" on its own based on human input and results. There is variation in human behavior, thus variation in results based on conditions. Machine learning simply takes the linear logic of AI and can recognize patterns in massive amounts of data at high speeds. Deep Neural Networks for Bot Detection

The problem of detecting bots, automated social media accounts governed by software but disguising as human users, has strong implications. For example, bots have been used to sway political elections by distorting online discourse, to manipulate the stock market, or to push anti-vaccine conspiracy theories that caused health epidemics. Most techniques proposed to date detect bots at the account level, by processing large amount of social media posts, and leveraging information from network structure, temporal dynamics, sentiment analysis, etc. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network based on contextual long short-term memory (LSTM) architecture that exploits both content and metadata to detect bots at the tweet level: contextual features are extracted from user metadata and fed as auxiliary input to LSTM deep nets processing the tweet text. Another contribution that we make is proposing a technique based on synthetic minority oversampling to generate a large labeled dataset, suitable for deep nets training, from a minimal amount of labeled data (roughly 3,000 examples of sophisticated Twitter bots). We demonstrate that, from just one single tweet, our architecture can achieve high classification accuracy (AUC > 96%) in separating bots from humans. We apply the same architecture to account-level bot detection, achieving nearly perfect classification accuracy (AUC > 99%). Our system outperforms previous state of the art while leveraging a small and interpretable set of features yet requiring minimal training data.

New Delhi, Feb 17 (PTI) Automation, artificial intelligence and micro-innovation are the three megatrends that will sweep the world beyond 2020 and workplaces need to be prepared to overcome "disruptions" from machine learning, Union minister Satya Pal Singh said. Addressing a gathering here at the 11th Higher Education Summit hosted by ASSOCHAM here, he also said it was "high time", institutions put students through entrepreneurship programmes. "Beyond 2020, three megatrends will sweep the world �?? automation, artificial intelligence and micro innovation. These will have a massive impact on workplaces, and how best we educate and equip people, with appropriate skills since medium and high-skilled jobs will remain in demand," Singh was quoted as saying in a statement by the umbrella business body. "Therefore, workplaces need to be best prepared to overcome disruptions from machine learning," the Minister of State for HRD said.

It's Time To End The Debate About Video Games And Violence

In the wake of the Valentine's Day shooting at a Broward County, Florida high school, a familiar trope has reemerged: Often, when a young man is the shooter, people try to blame the tragedy on violent video games and other forms of media. Florida lawmaker Jared Moskowitz made the connection the day after the shooting, saying the gunman "was prepared to pick off students like it's a video game." In January, after two students were killed and many others wounded by a 15-year-old shooter in Benton, Kentucky, the state's governor criticized popular culture, telling reporters, "We can't celebrate death in video games, celebrate death in TV shows, celebrate death in movies, celebrate death in musical lyrics and remove any sense of morality and sense of higher authority and then expect that things like this are not going to happen." But, speaking as a researcher who has studied violent video games for almost 15 years, I can state that there is no evidence to support these claims that violent media and real-world violence are connected. As far back as 2011, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that research did not find a clear connection between violent video games and aggressive behavior. Criminologists who study mass shootings specifically refer to those sorts of connections as a "myth."
