AI could kick start a nuclear war by 2040, according to a report published by the RAND Corporation, a US policy and defence think tank. The report describes several scenarios where the technology could be used to track and target the launch of nuclear weapons, and the intelligence gathered by AI can be used to inform decisions about the use of weapons of mass destruction in the future. But there is danger in using AI to retaliate against attacks. Adversary nations might interpret the move as a "first-strike threat" or a "doomsday machine". These machines are programmed to recognize and get back at aggressive enemy behavior.

The American security agency CIA knows that the future can't go without artificial intelligence. The agency was all over the news last year because of Wikileaks which published their collection of hacking tools. CIA wants to deal with foreign spies, not human but AI-powered spies tracking CIA agents deployed overseas. An effective countermeasure would be using technology instead of humans to get the required intel. IT pros react to House of Lords Committee AI Code of Practice

This week the House of Lord's Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence (AI) released a report stressing that ethics should be at the centre of AI – a report which has so far been welcomed by the IT industry. In July 2017 a 13 strong Committee was tasked to assess the economic and social impact of artificial intelligence. The aim of the cross-sector code of practice is to ensure AI is developed ethically and does not diminish the rights and opportunities of humans. The report states that AI should be developed for the "common good and benefit of humanity" and operate on principles of "intelligibility and fairness". Army Building "Self-Aware" Squid-Like Robot That Can Be "3-D Printed" During Combat

The Army Research Laboratory's next robot weapon isn't a new predator drone or even a robot dog like the infamous prototype developed by Boston Labs.
