Brits fear the AI future
With AI assistants part of our daily lives, new research from IP EXPO Europe has found 60% of Brits are worried artificial intelligence (AI) will hack their internet connected devices. The research, which studied the perception the UK public have towards AI used in both cyber security and cyber-attacks, also found just over a quarter (26%) believe cyber criminals aren't capable of using AI, listing reasons for incapability as it being too expensive, too complicated to use and simply not having access to it. A startling result given the increasing availability of free AI software programs online, highlighting just how oblivious the UK public can be in regards to big technology issues. When it comes to fending off cyber-attacks, just 28% of the UK public believe organisations are more secure if they use AI. By contrast, 34% believe using AI for cybersecurity will make no difference and organisations will be hacked regardless of if they are using AI or not – a view perhaps reflecting the ever evolving cyber threats both businesses and individuals face.
Tokyo stocks extend gains on U.S.-Mexico trade deal
Stocks gained further ground, albeit slightly, on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Tuesday, after a new U.S.-Mexico trade deal eased investor concerns over global trade friction. The 225-issue Nikkei average edged up 13.83 points, or 0.06 percent, to end at 22,813.47 after briefly rising above the 23,000 mark for the first time in two and a half months. The key market yardstick extended its winning streak to a sixth session, after adding 197.87 points on Monday. The Topix index of all first-section issues closed up 2.68 points, or 0.16 percent, at 1,731.63. It advanced 19.75 points the previous day.

It's a financing program, rather than a subscription service, which means that you'll sign up for a two-year contract and then get to keep the console at the end of the period.
Artificial Intelligence -- Who will guard the guardsmen?
An interesting question about artificial intelligence was raised by Lenore Kerrigan, the country sales director for enterprise information management group, OpenText, in an article she wrote in Business Tech. She points out that AI is here to stay, and it will get better and more powerful as time goes on. And AI, along with autonomous devices, is transforming the way we do our banking, run our businesses, and other sectors, altering basic operational and decision making within the organization yet improving efficiency and response times. Kerrigan cites the Davos 2018 World Economic Forum meeting, held earlier this year where world leaders debated the ethics of AI, with UK Prime Minister Theresa May launching the UK's Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation. AI for matching altered fingerprints -- GCN
The FBI's Next Generation Identification system gives the criminal justice and intelligence communities access to the world's largest electronic repository of biometric and criminal history information. NGI cannot, however, return accurate matches when criminals alter their fingerprints. Although algorithms exist to detect and match some altered fingerprints, the FBI wants to use artificial intelligence to enable the NGI system to detect and match not only the alteration types that the algorithm has been coded detect, but also whatever new alteration techniques criminals eventually develop. To keep pace to evolving alteration techniques, the NGI must be able "to learn new variations on the normal fingerprint pattern on a continuous basis without being trained to do so," the FBI said in a request for information. The agency is asking vendors for details on their technology, current AI applications, outcomes demonstrating the ability of their AI technology to learn in current applications and a description of how such an application would work with the NGI system.

Donald Trump has accused Google of rigging its search results to make him look bad. People who search for the latest news about the president are in fact being shown intentionally damaging stories, he claimed. Mr Trump even suggested that the results could be getting illegally manipulated from inside the search giant. This series of articles will give you a detailed idea about Artificial neural networks and concepts related to it. The manufacturer was also boosted by its announcement that it was investing $500 million in ride-hailing service Uber and will partner with Uber to build self-driving cars. Toyota was trading up nearly 2 percent in the morning session on the Tokyo Stock Exchange but settled at 0.9 percent higher in the afternoon.
Experts assemble for U.N.-hosted meeting on 'killer robots'
GENEVA – Experts from scores of countries are meeting to discuss ways to define and deal with "killer robots" -- futuristic weapons systems that could conduct war without human intervention. The weeklong gathering that opened Monday is the second at U.N. offices in Geneva this year to focus on such lethal autonomous weapons systems and to explore possibilities for regulating them, among other issues. In theory, fully autonomous, computer-controlled weapons don't exist yet, U.N. officials say. The debate is still in its infancy, and the experts have at times grappled with basic definitions. The United States has argued that it's premature to establish a definition of such systems, much less regulate them.
The AI that could help make fusion power a reality
An AI is set to try and work out how a potentially limitless supply of energy can be used on Earth. It could finally solve the mysteries of fusion power, letting researchers capture and control the process that powers the sun and stars. Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and Princeton University hope to harness a massive new supercomputer to work out how the doughnut-shaped devices, known as tokamaks, can be used. In the middle of the rising Tokamak Building a well is preserved for the ITER machine. While ITER won't generate electricity, scientists hope it will demonstrate that such a fusion reactor can produce more energy than it consumes.
