China releases first footage of its stealth spy drone

China has unveiled its first stealth spy drone that is invisible to radar and can fly 40 hours without refuelling. The'Sky Hawk' warplane is capable of taking a clear picture of a car's number plate while flying at the altitude of 3,000 metres (9,800 feet), according to its developer. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has been kept as a top secret by Beijing, and this is the first time any footage of it has been released. Footage of China's first stealth spy drone'Sky Hawk' has been released by its manufacturer The video, uploaded on New Year's Day, shows the plane taking off at an unspecified location The'Sky Hawk', or Tianying in Chinese, is the brainchild of Sea Hawke General Aviation Equipment Company Ltd, which was set up in 2012 by state-run China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation to develop and manufacture military drones. The plane is capable of avoiding radar detection and penetrating key enemy targets in a'highly threatening battling environment', says Sea Hawke in a post on Chinese social media on New Year's Day.


Rapid driverless vehicle rollout projected in Australia by 2020

CANBERRA: Five car manufacturers would have level three and four autonomous vehicles available by 2020, rising to 14 by 2022, the Australian National Transport Commission (NTC) said Monday, warning lawmakers must prepare for an autonomous vehicle boom. In a submission to the parliamentary infrastructure and transport committee, the NTC said that there could be between 740,000 and 1.7 million autonomous vehicles on Australian roads by 2020 and 9.5 million by 2030. Michael McCormack, Australia's Deputy Prime Minister (PM), said that the government was working with industry groups to prepare for the rapid rollout. "I want to ensure these new technologies are deployed in a manner which improves safety, productivity, accessibility and liveability for Australians in both urban and regional areas," he told News Corp Australia on Monday. Level three autonomous vehicles are vehicles that can drive themselves but require a driver capable of taking control at all times while level four vehicles can perform all driving functions autonomously with the option of driver control.

So far this year, the show floor appears less dominated by TVs and is leaning more toward the overall smart home, with everything from high-tech beauty devices to smart showers and aroma systems. The new long-term NHS spending proposals which are published on Monday make many of the front pages. The Daily Telegraph says the 10-year plan will see every child with cancer offered genetic testing so they can receive more effective, personalised treatment. It reports that the government hopes the overall plan will save 500,000 lives - a figure that is also splashed on the front pages of the Daily Express and the Daily Mail. New technology is at the heart of the government's healthcare plan, the i newspaper says, and artificial intelligence will also be used to prevent "major killer conditions" in the coming years. The Mail features a piece written by Chancellor Philip Hammond, in which he says the NHS must improve efficiency to ensure the extra cash - a £20.5bn a year funding boost by 2023/24 - is not wasted.

More than 100 years ago acoustic mirrors along the coast of England were used to detect the sound of approaching German zeppelins. The concave concrete structures were designed to pick up sound waves from enemy aircraft, making it possible to predict their flight trajectory, giving enough time for ground forces to be alerted to defend the towns and cities of Britain. Invented by Dr. William Sansome Tucke and known as sound mirrors, their development continued until the mid-1930s, when radar made them obsolete. Joe Pettet-Smith set out to photograph all the remaining structures following a conversation with his father, who told him about these large concrete structures dotted along the coastline between Brighton and Dover. "When I was a child my father told me stories about my grandfather and his involvement in radar," says Pettet-Smith.


Semi-supervised learning in unbalanced and heterogeneous networks

Community detection was a hot topic on network analysis, where the main aim is to perform unsupervised learning or clustering in networks. Recently, semi-supervised learning has received increasing attention among researchers. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm, called weighted inverse Laplacian (WIL), for predicting labels in partially labeled networks. The idea comes from the first hitting time in random walk, and it also has nice explanations both in information propagation and the regularization framework. We propose a partially labeled degree-corrected block model (pDCBM) to describe the generation of partially labeled networks. We show that WIL ensures the misclassification rate is of order $O(\frac{1}{d})$ for the pDCBM with average degree $d=\Omega(\log n),$ and that it can handle situations with greater unbalanced than traditional Laplacian methods. WIL outperforms other state-of-the-art methods in most of our simulations and real datasets, especially in unbalanced networks and heterogeneous networks.


A dual mode adaptive basal-bolus advisor based on reinforcement learning

-- Self - monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) are commonly used by type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients to measure glucose concentrations. The proposed adaptive basal - bolus algori thm (ABBA) supports inputs from either SMBG or CGM devices to provide personalised suggestions for the daily basal rate and prandial insulin doses on the basis of the patients' glucose level on the previous day. The ABBA is based on reinforcement learning (RL), a type of artificial intelligence, and was validated in silico with an FDA - accepted population of 100 adults under different realistic scenarios lasting three simulated months. The scenarios involve three main meals and one bedtime snack per day, alo ng with different variabilities and uncertainties for insulin sensitivity, mealtime, carbohydrate amount, and glucose measurement time. The results indicate that the proposed approach achieves comparable performance with CGM or SMBG as input signals, witho ut influencing the total daily insulin dose. The results are a promising indication that AI algorithmic approaches can provide personalised adaptive insulin optimisation and achieve glucose control - independently of the type of glucose monitoring technolo gy. CES 2019: Chinese tech firms keep low profile amid trade tensions

LAS VEGAS - The CES 2019 gadget show, which kicks off Sunday, will showcase the expanding influence and sway of China's rapidly growing technology sector. But some of its firms are stepping back from the spotlight amid rising U.S. national-security concerns over Chinese tech and a trans-Pacific trade war launched by President Donald Trump. Last year, a top executive of the Chinese telecom firm Huawei delivered a CES keynote address critical of AT&T's abrupt cancellation of plans to sell a Huawei phone following espionage concerns raised by the U.S. government. This year, Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada at the behest of the U.S.; Meng Wanzhou, daughter of Huawei's founder, now awaits U.S. extradition. No Chinese technology executives will deliver CES keynotes in Las Vegas this week.
