UK's Health Secretary has announced a massive £250 million investment in Artificial Intelligence which will help the NHS system tap into the power of AI. The European superpower is setting up a National AI Lab to make this happen. The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: "The experts tell us that because of our NHS and our tech talent, the UK could be the world leader in these advances in healthcare, so I'm determined to give the NHS the chance to be the world leader in saving lives through artificial intelligence and genomics." The NHS Long Term Plan had earlier pledged to use AI to help clinicians eliminate various variations in care. This investment will augment the pledge.

Law is a constantly evolving industry, and few things have brought about as much change as the rise of legal tech. From my days at Harvard Law School, to BigLaw, to my current role leading a legal tech company, I've seen first-hand how technology, and AI in particular, have played a critical role in bringing a risk-averse industry into the next wave of the digital era. When I arrived at Harvard Law School in 2005, artificial intelligence was little more than a theoretical concept in the legal industry. Practical applications of AI, machine learning, and natural language processing were still things of the future. It would be years before IBM's Watson would beat Ken Jennings on Jeopardy!

In recent years, the proliferation of digital technologies has created multiple customer service channels and touchpoints through which citizens can access online government services. Unfortunately, user experience is often overlooked in the design and deployment of these new digital services. Citizens' expectations of service are shaped not only by their interactions with government agencies, but also by their everyday digital experiences. For example, a recent Accenture survey of over 5,000 citizens from five countries found that as they encounter more user-friendly AI solutions in their daily lives, expectations for government use of these technologies increase. In this changing environment, the need for a convenient and seamless customer experience across all engagement channels has never been more pressing.

More than three budgets presented in the parliament had mentioned about the Artificial Intelligence (AI) provisions. But the much-talked-about AI project has not moved forward in the last two years. The project seems to have been stuck between government departments NITI Aayog and the ministry of electronics and IT (Meity). Meity, in a last inter-ministerial meet, has raised apprehension over the numerous overlaps committed by the NITI Aayog related to AI road map. Now, the ministry has sought the intervention of finance ministry to look into it and resolve it, said ET report quoting govt official aware of the development.

JERUSALEM – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned Iran and its Lebanese Shiite proxy, the militant Hezbollah group, that Israel "knows how to defend itself and how to pay back its enemies." Netanyahu's remarks came in response to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah's threats to retaliate against an Israeli airstrike in Syria that killed two Hezbollah members. Netanyahu said he heard the threats saying: "I suggest that Nasrallah relax." He also sent a message to Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani, whom Israel accuses of masterminding a drone attack from Syria that it thwarted with its airstrike. "Be careful with your words and even more so be careful with your actions," Netanyahu said.

We get the idea behind using mines during times of war. They can be hidden which means that they can be used to protect an area. The explosions also can act as an alarm of sorts, notifying soldiers than an enemy is close by. However, once the war is over, what happens to these mines? They are usually left there which in turn creates problems for people who are repopulating an area after war, where innocent civilians might accidentally step on them. However, the process of clearing mines is dangerous and slow, but a company by the name of 4M Analytics believes it can improve on that process using AI.

We live in an age where logical reasoning matters the most, whether we use apps on smartphones for weather forecast, or software for improving driving. Ever since the invention of computers, we have grown to expect larger-than-life outputs from them. Computers must handle our basic day-to-day chores as well as solve complex problems. The race to make computers smarter has never ceased. But what more we can expect from computers? No matter what, we have partially succeeded in making computers smarter.
