Multi-agent systems have been used to predict online trading behaviors, disaster response protocols, and social structure modeling. They can help us understand dimensionality, discreteness, determinism, and episodicity. Syria is not the only model that can be constructed using MAAI. An even more contentious example is voting. While there has been a lot of talk about the potential role of deepfakes in the 2020 election in America--even though, currently, most videos are currently used to pornographically degrade women--MAAI might play an even bigger role.

Using Neural Machine Translation for Multilingual Communication

A new type of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, called Neural Machine Translation (NMT), is quickly earning the attention of multilingual communities. This software is helping to expedite the translation process and has the potential to open government information to more non-English languages. In this session, Beth Flaherty will give a high-level overview of machine translation technology. We will discuss the evolution of machine translation (MT), how MT is used in the government, ways to "specialize" a language engine to a specific domain, calculation of return on investment (ROI), and the road ahead. We'll also show a live demo of the NMT software so that the audience can see the flexibility of use with this technology.


Reconnecting Brain and Spine, AI Can Make Paralysed Patients Move Analytics Insight

Intel and Brown University have started their work in a DARPA-funded Intelligent Spine Interface Project. The project aims at employing AI technology to restore movement and bladder control for patients paralyzed by critical spinal cord injuries. DARPA or Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency is an agency of the US Department of Defence. The agency is responsible for the development of emerging technologies for military-purpose use. The corporate vice-president and general manager of the AI Products Group, Intel Group, Naveen Rao said, "As a Ph.D. student at Brown, I investigated how to interface the brain with machines as an application. Now at Intel, we are combining our AI expertise with Brown University's cutting-edge medical research to help solve a critical medical problem: how to reconnect the brain and spine after a major spinal injury."


Responsible AI Drives Execution

Global non-profit OceanMind uses AI to detect illegal and unregulated fishing which helps authorities protect ocean life and promote sustainability. The AI for Good movement founded by the UN ITU AI for Good Global Summit (#AI4G) is having reverberations into powerful responsibility. AI4G has more than 150 projects in their AI repository. I'm providing my perspective on these programs where I'm donating time to many of them, including Microsoft, and thus have deep insights. The USPTO seeks AI expertise to change the rules of the game internally and externally

Interested parties now have just less than three weeks to apply to become the USPTO's first-ever Senior Level Artificial Intelligence Technical Expert. The post, which is being advertised on the US government's USAJobs website, comes with a salary of between $127,914 and $176,900 a year, and a wide-ranging brief: The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is seeking a technical expert to advance the shared understanding of how to best implement the opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence. The role will provide technical expertise in developing solutions for real-world, large-scale problems using Artificial Intelligence at the USPTO. More specifically, the USPTO is an entity that produces a high volume of data each and every day. The person appointed to lead its AI operation will be responsible for developing and implementing systems that will enable that data to be used both internally and externally to improve processes, enable staff and enhance services.

Ground Control to Major Growth in Hospital Command Centers

When the world rallied around the celebration of the Apollo 11 anniversary this past July, another moonshot was unfolding to somewhat less fanfare not far from where NASA launched Apollo at the Kennedy Space Center – a medical moonshot. Two Florida hospitals, Tampa General Hospital and AdventHealth Orlando, launched mission control-like centers to serve as the nerve-center of their hospitals. Surrounded by big screens, monitors and flashing lights – all meant to help staff across the hospital coordinate care, drive efficiency and improve the way patients move around the hospital – those who were there could be forgiven for thinking they had stepped into a NASA control center.


Passport facial checks fail to work with dark skin

When it launched a new passport checking service, the Home Office knew that it had trouble handling some shades of skin, a report in the New Scientist has revealed. The facial recognition technology failed to recognise the features of some people with very light or dark skin. The problem had become apparent during trials of the service. The government says that users can override the automated check if needed. Facial recognition maps a person's features from a computer-scanned image or live feed.


Bayer chooses UK for its AI-focused R&D hub -

Bayer has continued its policy of setting up R&D hubs to get closer to innovative companies with a UK site that will focus on applying artificial intelligence to drug discovery and disease diagnosis. The cluster – based at Reading's Green Park – is the seventh in the German company's LifeHub network, located at R&D hot spots around the globe, and is further evidence of the UK's leading position in AI technology. According to the Tech Nation 2019 report, the UK is today the world's third biggest market for AI investment after the US and China with funding rising six-fold since 2014. Bayer already has one company getting ready to set up a unit at LifeHub UK. Sensyne Health, which started working with the German group earlier this year, will base a project focusing on applying AI to automate image evaluation in radiology at the site.
