Video reveals how patent-pending stealth material can hide objects by bending light
Invisibility cloak technology has been developed that bends light in order to make objects disappear. The material, which was created by Canada-based camouflage company Hyperstealth, could be used to hide large items such as army tanks or even to shield troops on the ground from enemies. Amazing video footage shows the screen in all its glory – in one clip a white sheet on the screen is visible, before a small miniature tank is revealed behind the screen. This is while another clip shows the screen in front of what looks like a tree, but it comes down, revealing a large housing complex. The company has been developing the technology for a number of years but has now applied for patents to begin the process of manufacturing it.
Huawei surveillance: Chinese snooping tech seen spreading to nations vulnerable to abuse, keeping tabs on trouble-makers
BELGRADE – When hundreds of video cameras with the power to identify and track individuals started appearing in the streets of Belgrade as part of a major surveillance project, some protesters began having second thoughts about joining anti-government demonstrations in the Serbian capital. Local authorities assert the system, created by Chinese telecommunications company Huawei, helps reduce crime in the city of 2 million. Critics contend it erodes personal freedoms, makes political opponents vulnerable to retribution and even exposes the country's citizens to snooping by the Chinese government. The cameras, equipped with facial recognition technology, are being rolled out across hundreds of cities around the world, particularly in poorer countries with weak track records on human rights where Beijing has increased its influence through big business deals. With the United States claiming that Chinese state authorities can get backdoor access to Huawei data, the aggressive rollout is raising concerns about the privacy of millions of people in countries with little power to stand up to China.

A few months ago, Fr Philip Larrey published his book called "Artificial Humanity". In this article, we will explain what would happen if we have an inhumane AI. First of all, what does inhumane mean? Primarily, when we say Artificial Inhumanity, we are referring to an AI which is not concerned with humans. It does not exhibit any human feeling, and humans are just animate objects roaming our world. Even though AI was initially conceived to serve humans, we do not exclude the possibility of eventually having an AI, which ultimately only serves its interests. If that happens, then we are definitely in big trouble. The question of whether machines can think is about as relevant as the question of whether submarines can swim. Using the same line of thought, if machines exhibit humanity, does that mean that they are human?

The White House Office of Management and Budget is looking for feedback on which government datasets could be released or opened up or generally improved in order to help support the development of artificial intelligence. The office published its request for input to the Federal Register on Wednesday. The RFI is part of the administration's American AI Initiative, an executive order that President Trump signed in February. The directive aims to promote American leadership in the development of this new technology. As part of this effort, OMB wants feedback on what kind of data people want and how this data will help in AI research and development.

On Feb. 11, 2019, President Donald J. Trump issued the Executive Order on Maintaining American Leadership in Artificial Intelligence (EO 13859). Among its objectives, the EO aims to "Ensure that technical standards minimize vulnerability to attacks from malicious actors and reflect Federal priorities for innovation, public trust, and public confidence in systems that use AI technologies; and develop international standards to promote and protect those priorities." The EO directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to create "a plan for Federal engagement in the development of technical standards and related tools in support of reliable, robust, and trustworthy systems that use AI technologies." NIST is committed to fulfilling that responsibility in a timely way, engaging the public and private sectors in producing a plan within 180 days. Healx raises $56 million to combat rare diseases with AI
Healx, a company using artificial intelligence (AI) to discover new drug treatments for rare diseases, has raised $56 million in a series B round of funding led by Atomico, with participation from Intel Capital, Balderton Capital, Global Brain, Btov Partners, Amadeus Capital Partners, and Cambridge Innovation Capital's Jonathan Milner. Founded out of Cambridge in 2014, Healx's core AI Platform -- Healnet -- applies a range of machine learning techniques to public and proprietary data sources, covering literature, clinical trials, patents, drug targets, chemical structures, symptoms, and more. Part of this process involves using natural language processing (NLP) to extract insights and knowledge from all the published sources around specific diseases. The culmination of all this data, Healx CEO and cofounder Dr. Tim Guilliams said, is a knowledge graph of rare diseases that could help pharmacologists or biologists unearth effective new treatments that would otherwise be much more difficult to spot. "We use a variety of machine learning algorithms to solve the many tasks necessary to predict drug treatments and translate them in the clinic effectively," Guilliams told VentureBeat.
