Now your iPhone or other Apple device can help you determine if you have symptoms associated with the coronavirus. You can simply ask Siri about symptoms of the coronavirus – "Siri, what are the symptoms of the coronavirus?" The assistant will ask you whether you certain symptoms such as fever, dry cough or trouble breathing and if you have been in contact with someone who might have contracted the virus. Even if Siri assesses that you are at lower risk, the assistant will offer some advice on hand washing and social distancing. Answers come from the U.S. Public Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has decided to provide funds up to $40 million over a three-year period for new research in data, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning to address the challenges associated with issues related to data production and management at DOE scientific user facilities. Dr. Chris Fall, Director of DOE's Office of Science, said: "Major scientific facilities at our DOE national laboratories are generating vast and growing amounts of data for researchers every day. Proposals are likely to cover a wide variety of different challenges, including extracting information from complex data sets, managing facility operations in real-time, and optimising experiments through the creation of virtual laboratory environments, among other topics. The funding opportunity focuses on 18 DOE Office of Science user facilities, comprising of particle accelerators, accelerator test facilities, x-ray light sources, neutron scattering sources, and nanoscale science research centres, overseen by three major programme offices: basic energy sciences, high energy physics, and nuclear physics. According to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report, data volumes in mobile networks are increasing at an exceptional rate and mobile data traffic is expected to grow fourfold by 2025, reaching up to 160 exabytes per month.

The CORD-19 dataset was released after the Trump administration issued a "call to action" for the tech community to develop AI (artificial intelligence) techniques to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections. In addition, Michael Kratsios, US Chief Technology Officer at The White House, explained that "decisive action from America's science and technology enterprise" was needed to prevent, detect, treat and develop a cure for COVID-19.

According to interviews with industry groups representing Silicon Valley, European tech companies and Germany's industrial base, the answer for now is: maybe, but only to a limited extent, and even then only when sharing data will not benefit rivals. "We haven't seen any single company speaking up in public saying it was a great idea," said Alexandre Roure of the Computer and Communications Industry Association (CCIA), a tech lobby whose members include Google and Facebook.

Spain will unleash robots capable of testing 80,000 patients a day into the heart of its coronavirus fight. The Spanish government says it will deploy the machines that will increase testing from its current daily figure of between 15,000 and 20,000. Raquel Yotti, head of Madrid's Health Institute Carlos III, said the plans to deploy the robots are already under way. She spoke as Spain's death toll surpassed 1,300 and the number of cases reached nearly 25,000. She said at a conference: "A plan to automate tests through robots has been already designed, and Spain has committed to buying four robots that will allow us to execute 80,000 tests per day."
