Finland Launches National Artificial Intelligence Program: AuroraAI

#artificialintelligence

The promise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a concept taken from science fiction. Businesses around the world are taking advantage of AI and automation, moving the enterprise right at the center of digital business transformation. Similarly, Government AI is not just a trend but a response from governments around the globe to the current state of Artificial Intelligence evolution, societal implications, enterprise disruption, and industry adoption. National Artificial Intelligence strategies are a response to the need that urges governments to remain in sync with strategic technology trends that have been emerging in recent years, technology trends that are shaping the way we live, socialize, work, and educate the future generations. Despite being a small nation of 5.5 million inhabitants, geographically located far up in the Nordics, bordering with the Polar Arctic Circle, Finland's citizens are internationally renowned for being early adopters of new technologies.

Could this software help users trust machine learning decisions?

#artificialintelligence

WASHINGTON - New software developed by BAE Systems could help the Department of Defense build confidence in decisions and intelligence produced by machine learning algorithms, the company claims. BAE Systems said it recently delivered its new MindfuL software program to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in a July 14 announcement. Developed in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the software is designed to increase transparency in machine learning systems--artificial intelligence algorithms that learn and change over time as they are fed ever more data--by auditing them to provide insights about how it reached its decisions. "The technology that underpins machine learning and artificial intelligence applications is rapidly advancing, and now it's time to ensure these systems can be integrated, utilized, and ultimately trusted in the field," said Chris Eisenbies, product line director of the cmpany's Autonomy, Control, and Estimation group. "The MindfuL system stores relevant data in order to compare the current environment to past experiences and deliver findings that are easy to understand."

Japanese startup Elix is using AI to research COVID-19 drugs

#artificialintelligence

The global search for a COVID-19 vaccine and treatment is on. Researchers are using every resource at their disposal to try and find a breakthrough against the killer virus. That includes artificial intelligence (AI). The tech has previously shown promise as a tool for drug development, but now researchers are putting it to the ultimate test -- finding a drug that treats COVID-19 in record time. A Japanese startup called Elix is leading the charge thanks to deep learning software from Nvidia. Finding drug molecules to treat diseases used to be a task that took years.

France says voice data from Ukrainian jet shot down by Iran has been recovered

FOX News

Fox News Flash top headlines are here. Check out what's clicking on Foxnews.com. French officials on Monday said investigators have obtained cockpit voice data from the black boxes of the Ukrainian jet mistakenly shot down by Iran in January. "CVR data - including the event itself - has been successfully downloaded," wrote France's BEA investigation bureau said in a tweet. The deadly incident came during a period of heightened tensions with the U.S. -- just hours after Iran fired missiles at Iraqi airbases housing American troops in retaliation for a U.S. drone strike that killed Iran's top military commander, Gen. Qassim Soleimani, earlier in January.

DARPA Contracts with Duality Technologies to Develop Privacy-Preserving Machine Learning for COVID-19 Research

#artificialintelligence

Duality Technologies partners with Harvard Medical School and Two Six Labs to accelerate privacy-preserving, collaborative machine learning protected through Homomorphic Encryption. This capability supports research into COVID-19 susceptibility while keeping patient data private and secure. Duality Technologies, a leading provider of Privacy-Enhancing Technologies (PETs), announced that it has contracted with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) to develop a privacy-preserving Machine Learning (ML) capability that can train models on encrypted data from multiple sources. The capabilities developed under the contract will be applied to researching genomic susceptibility to severe COVID-19 symptoms in a manner which preserves individual privacy. The development is based on Homomorphic Encryption (HE), a privacy-enhancing technology that allows multiple parties to analyze encrypted data and gain insights without exposing Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Future Of Artificial Intelligence - Expert Opinions - CamRojud

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is not a new concept for people. Machine learning and robots were infused into our lives years ago but the hype of artificial intelligence today is extraordinary. Whether it is an upcoming AI technology or a new perspective of it's on society. It is still obscure that what will be the potential impacts of these technologies on different platforms in which organizational implementation of AI is most highlighted. People are still confused about the idea especially when it comes to the recruitment of this machinery.

The Mental Exam Trump Took Isn't An IQ Test, But A Test On Cognitive Decline

International Business Times

Chris Wallace, host of "Fox News Sunday," took the online cognitive test President Donald Trump said he aced and wasn't impressed with its difficulty. Wallace interviewed Trump on his show Sunday. The wide ranging discussion mostly covered COVID-19. It also touched on the bestselling book by his niece, Dr. Mary L. Trump; his late father, Fred; the economy; Joe Biden; Biden's alleged vow to defund the police; and Biden's alleged cognitive problems. During the interview, Trump said he wanted Joe Biden to take the "Montreal Cognitive Assessment" (MoCA) test he took in 2018 and which his doctors said he "aced."

Along With USA & EU, India Becomes Founding Member Of Global Partnership On AI

#artificialintelligence

India has now joined the league of leading economies including USA, UK, EU, Italy, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea, & Singapore to launch the Global Partnership on AI. Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) is the first of its kind initiative, aimed to guide responsible development and use of AI, grounded in human rights, inclusion, diversity, innovation, and economic growth. This is also the first initiative of its type for evolving a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities around Artificial Intelligence using the experience and diversity of participating countries. To embark on this goal, GPAI will look to close the gap between theory and practice on Artificial Intelligence by leveraging cutting-edge research and applied action on Artificial Intelligence-related objectives. "We, Australia, France, Canada, Italy, Germany, Mexico, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Slovenia, Singapore, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, have come together to build the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence."

Smart speakers could be listening in on government secrets, UK civil servants warned

The Independent - Tech

Civil servants working from home during the coronavirus pandemic have been warned to disable their smart speakers. These devices constantly listen for their trigger word, such as "Alexa", "Hey Google", or "Hey Siri", before listening actively for commands. However, these devices have been found to occasionally activate without the wake word. Last year, an Alexa device even managed to record a private conversation and send it to another user without anyone's knowledge. At the time, Amazon said the reason was a series of statements its voice assistant mistook for commands.

Tackling the misinformation epidemic with "In Event of Moon Disaster"

#artificialintelligence

Can you recognize a digitally manipulated video when you see one? It's harder than most people realize. As the technology to produce realistic "deepfakes" becomes more easily available, distinguishing fact from fiction will only get more challenging. A new digital storytelling project from MIT's Center for Advanced Virtuality aims to educate the public about the world of deepfakes with "In Event of Moon Disaster." This provocative website showcases a "complete" deepfake (manipulated audio and video) of U.S. President Richard M. Nixon delivering the real contingency speech written in 1969 for a scenario in which the Apollo 11 crew were unable to return from the moon.
