In recent years, low-resource Machine Reading Comprehension (MRC) has made significant progress, with models getting remarkable performance on various language datasets. However, none of these models have been customized for the Urdu language. This work explores the semi-automated creation of the Urdu Question Answering Dataset (UQuAD1.0) by combining machine-translated SQuAD with human-generated samples derived from Wikipedia articles and Urdu RC worksheets from Cambridge O-level books. UQuAD1.0 is a large-scale Urdu dataset intended for extractive machine reading comprehension tasks consisting of 49k question Answers pairs in question, passage, and answer format. In UQuAD1.0, 45000 pairs of QA were generated by machine translation of the original SQuAD1.0 and approximately 4000 pairs via crowdsourcing. In this study, we used two types of MRC models: rule-based baseline and advanced Transformer-based models. However, we have discovered that the latter outperforms the others; thus, we have decided to concentrate solely on Transformer-based architectures. Using XLMRoBERTa and multi-lingual BERT, we acquire an F1 score of 0.66 and 0.63, respectively.

People's Liberation Army of China has been using artificial intelligence technology to simulate war games for invasion operations against Taiwan, a report released by the Centre for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) at Georgetown University informed. The report, titled'Harnessed Lightning: How the Chinese Military is Adopting Artificial Intelligence', studies nearly 350 AI-related equipment contracts awarded by the PLA and state-owned defence enterprises last year to track China's adoption of the technology, Taiwan News reported. "Specifically, we find the PLA is buying AI systems designed to identify undersea vehicles, wargame Taiwan operations, track US navy ships, and deploy electronic countermeasures, among other tasks," CSET researcher Ryan Fedasiuk was quoted saying by Taiwan News. "We find that China's military-civil fusion development strategy is paying real dividends. Of the 273 AI equipment suppliers in our data set, 60 per cent are private companies. The overwhelming majority are quite small, established only in the last 10 years."

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration released a list of "guiding principles" this week aimed at helping promote the safe and effective development of medical devices that use artificial intelligence and machine learning. The FDA, along with its U.K. and Canadian counterparts, said the principles are intended to lay the foundation for Good Machine Learning Practice. "As the AI/ML medical device field evolves, so too must GMLP best practice and consensus standards," said the agency regarding the principles. As the FDA notes, AI and ML technologies have the potential to radically expand the healthcare industry – but their complexity also presents unique considerations. The 10 guiding principles identify points at which international standards organizations and other collaborative bodies, including the International Medical Device Regulators Forum, could work to advance GMLP.

Recent research has found that artificial intelligence technology is expected to remain a major priority for federal agencies. While the COVID pandemic response added urgency to the development of agencies' IT and AI capabilities, these technologies are rooted in agencies' long-term IT and R&D strategic plans. That research has found that as government mission requirements grow, federal agencies are seeking ways to maximize the use of the vast data sets they collect and store. Artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies have emerged as key solutions enabling agencies to improve mission effectiveness, stretch workforce capacity, combat waste, fraud and abuse and drive operational efficiencies.

Abu Dhabi's artificial intelligence university welcomed 42 business and government leaders into its new executive programme on Sunday, as the UAE aims to be at the forefront of AI development. The 12-week programme at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) aims to offer practical training on AI and build connections between the public and private sectors and the scientific community. Instructors have been brought from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the University of Oxford and Carnegie Mellon University to teach course content. "AI is proving to be the single most important economic accelerator of our time and it is central to the UAE's national and economic growth agenda," Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, managing director and group chief executive of Adnoc and chairman of the MBZUAI Board of Trustees, said at the opening ceremony. "The MBZUAI Executive Programme was designed to take the latest AI methodologies from the classroom to the workplace, where they can make a practical difference. This is a real-world, tailored programme that focuses on tangible results."

Oracle, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are archenemies in the competitive cloud computing market.
