The world is focusing on research to secure competitiveness in robot development, such as the introduction of artificial intelligence, ahead of the 4th industrial revolution. However, some academics have pointed out that if a nuclear war breaks out, it will be related to the development of artificial intelligence. Tesla founder Elon Musk said the race for dominance in artificial intelligence technology would be the cause of World War III. A report published by the Rand Institute, which specializes in US military affairs, supports this view. Doug Irving, author of the Rand Lab blog, said, "Recent advances in artificial intelligence technology have given rise to machines capable of learning and thinking."
The Use of Artificial Intelligence as a Strategy to Analyse Urban Informality
Within the Latin American and Caribbean region, it has been recorded that at least 25% of the population lives in informal settlements. Given that their expansion is one of the major problems afflicting these cities, a project is presented, supported by the IDB, which proposes how new technologies are capable of contributing to the identification and detection of these areas in order to intervene in them and help reduce urban informality. Informal settlements, also known as slums, shantytowns, camps or favelas, depending on the country in question, are uncontrolled settlements on land where, in many cases, the conditions for a dignified life are not in place. Through self-built dwellings, these sites are generally the result of the continuous growth of the housing deficit. For decades, the possibility of collecting information about the Earth's surface through satellite imagery has been contributing to the analysis and production of increasingly accurate and useful maps for urban planning.
European Council introductory handbook on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights
Turning ethical Artificial Intelligence into reality implies assessing the risks of AI in context, particularly in terms of its impact on civil and social rights and then, depending on the assessed risk, defining standards or regulating the ethical design, development and implementation of algorithmic systems. This is the aim of this introductory handbook by the Council of Europe and the Alan Turing Institute, of late 2021, "Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law: A Primer". A key initiative in this process was the feasibility study prepared and approved in December by the Council of Europe's Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI), which explores options for an international legal response, based on Council of Europe standards in the fields of artificial intelligence, rights, democracy and the rule of law: it proposes nine principles and priorities that are well suited to the new challenges posed by the design, development and deployment of Artificial Intelligence systems. When codified into law, these principles and priorities create a set of interconnected rights and obligations that will work to ensure that the design and use of artificial intelligence technologies conform to the values of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The key question is whether there are responses to the specific risks and opportunities presented by AI systems that can and should be addressed through the use of binding and non-binding international legal instruments, through the agency of the Council of Europe, which is the guardian of the European Convention on Human Rights, Convention 108, which protects the processing of personal data, and the European Social Charter.

But to realize the full potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for patients, researchers must foster greater confidence in the accuracy, fairness, and usefulness of clinical AI algorithms. Getting there will require guardrails -- along with a commitment from AI developers to use them -- that ensure consistency and adherence to the highest standards when creating and using clinical AI tools. Such guardrails would not only improve the quality of clinical AI but would also instill confidence among patients and clinicians that all tools deployed are reliable and trustworthy. STAT, along with researchers from MIT, recently demonstrated that even "subtle shifts in data fed into popular health care algorithms -- used to warn caregivers of impending medical crises -- can cause their accuracy to plummet over time."

Sequential algorithmic modification with test data reuse

After initial release of a machine learning algorithm, the model can be fine-tuned by retraining on subsequently gathered data, adding newly discovered features, or more. Each modification introduces a risk of deteriorating performance and must be validated on a test dataset. It may not always be practical to assemble a new dataset for testing each modification, especially when most modifications are minor or are implemented in rapid succession. Recent works have shown how one can repeatedly test modifications on the same dataset and protect against overfitting by (i) discretizing test results along a grid and (ii) applying a Bonferroni correction to adjust for the total number of modifications considered by an adaptive developer. However, the standard Bonferroni correction is overly conservative when most modifications are beneficial and/or highly correlated. This work investigates more powerful approaches using alpha-recycling and sequentially-rejective graphical procedures (SRGPs). We introduce novel extensions that account for correlation between adaptively chosen algorithmic modifications. In empirical analyses, the SRGPs control the error rate of approving unacceptable modifications and approve a substantially higher number of beneficial modifications than previous approaches.

It is written by thought leaders of the highest-level, each in their respective fields. The first author is Henry Kissinger the former Secretary of State and NSC advisor to two US presidents, a philosopher and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. At age 98 he has seen it all and done it, and remains an international counselor to politicians and business magnates. The second author, Eric Schmidt consolidated Google into the cutting edge technology giant that it is today. In this role he is a sought out counselor and business mogul. The third author is Daniel Huttenlocher -- the inaugural Dean of the MIT College of Computing. It is the place where AI is reinvented and recreated on self-teaching algorithm development and data aggregation from the global network platforms and the internet that occur 24/7 at a neck breaking pace. This compendium though incomplete, has more authors, contributors and editors. Meredith Potter is a contributor who augments Kissinger's intellectual pursuits she drafted, edited the texts and made the chapters flowing clearly and seamless. These and other editors made this textbook intellectually rich, informative, and easy to read. The Age of AI introduces the reader to the occurring changes we experienced in our society today. You are about to encounter many topics that involve the future in its continuing evolution. Every high school student is adapting to the new classroom intellectual reality.
