"The UAE is the first country in the Gulf Cooperation Council to commit to net-zero by 2050; all growth and development must align with that commitment, which means we have to do our bit," Karim El-Jisr, chief sustainability officer, SSC, told Arab News.

Friday's launch of its third and most advanced aircraft carrier, the Fujian, for sea trials underscores just how far it has come, and how fast. The first two carriers, the Liaoning and Shandong, were ex-Soviet designs; the Liaoning initially bought for scrap from Ukraine and refitted. While antiquated, they have been used to train new generations of naval officers and pilots in the complex science and art of aircraft carrier operations. This new design of aircraft carrier is a quantum leap in capabilities from these older models and will greatly enhance China's combat power.

Aidoc raises $110M to expand AI-enabled imaging platform

AI-enabled imaging company Aidoc scooped up $110 million in a Series D funding round. The round was led by TCV and Alpha Intelligence Capital with participation from AIC's co-investor CDIB Capital. The investment, which comes nearly a year after the startup announced its $66 million Series C, brings Aidoc's funding pot to $250 million. Aidoc offers tools that help radiologists find and triage injuries and health conditions based on imaging results. It also provides coordination software for stroke and cardiovascular care, alerting relevant members of the care team and sharing data and images.


Harnessing machine learning to analyze quantum material

"The limited capacity of the traditional mode of analysis--largely manual--is quickly becoming the critical bottleneck," Kim said. A group led by Kim has successfully used a machine learning technique developed with Cornell computer scientists to analyze massive amounts of data from the quantum metal Cd2Re2O7, settling a debate about this particular material and setting the stage for future machine learning aided insight into new phases of mater.
