BBC News

'I spoke to ChatGPT 8 times a day' - Gen Z's loneliness'crisis' Working from home after years spent alone over Covid lockdowns, 23-year-old Paisley said he began to feel trapped, and felt only AI could help him. I lost the ability to socialise, he said, and like many in Gen Z, he turned to AI for company. At one point, I was talking to ChatGPT six, seven, eight times a day about my problems, I just couldn't get away from it, it was a dangerous slope. He shared his experience of loneliness with 22-year-old documentary maker Sam Tullen, who told the BBC what Paisley was going through was part of a wider Gen Z loneliness crisis. Gen Z, a term used for those born between 1997 and 2012, often referred to as the first'digital native' generation.

Warsh set to face early reality check as Trump's man at the Fed

The Japan Times

Warsh set to face early reality check as Trump's man at the Fed Kevin Warsh has pledged to shrink the Fed's balance sheet and argued that a productivity boom driven by artificial intelligence will keep inflation low. Kevin Warsh waited almost a decade before finally clinching U.S. President Donald Trump's nomination to be chair of the Federal Reserve. He won't need to wait as long before his first big test in the job. Having won the race with a promise of regime change" at the Fed, suggesting he would make significant changes, Warsh has pledged to shrink the Fed's balance sheet and argued that a productivity boom driven by artificial intelligence will keep inflation low. While that prognosis was enough to convince Trump, his Fed pick will now need to convince fellow policymakers and investors.

Right-Wing Gun Enthusiasts and Extremists Are Working Overtime to Justify Alex Pretti's Killing

WIRED

Right-Wing Gun Enthusiasts and Extremists Are Working Overtime to Justify Alex Pretti's Killing Donald Trump has appeared to undermine Second Amendment rights in statements about Alex Pretti's killing. Many in the firearms community are going along with it. In the hours after Border Patrol agents shot and killed Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, President Donald Trump and his administration appeared to directly undermine the rights granted to gun owners in the Second Amendment. Department of Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem inaccurately said Pretti was a " domestic terrorist " who was "brandishing" his legally held gun. FBI director Kash Patel wrongly told Fox News it's illegal to bring a gun to a protest.

NASA used Claude to plot a route for its Perseverance rover on Mars

Engadget

No, the chatbot did not crash Perseverance. Since 2021, NASA's Perseverance rover has achieved a number of historic milestones, including sending back the first audio recordings from Mars . Now, nearly five years after landing on the Red Planet, it just achieved another feat. This past December, Perseverance successfully completed a route through a section of the Jezero crater plotted by Anthropic's Claude chatbot, marking the first time NASA has used a large language model to pilot the car-sized robot. Between December 8 and 10, Perseverance drove approximately 400 meters (about 437 yards) through a field of rocks on the Martian surface mapped out by Claude.

RFK's Overhauled Autism Committee Is Even Worse Than It Looks

Mother Jones

RFK's Overhauled Autism Committee Is Even Worse Than It Looks Kennedy has stacked another HHS panel with his fellow travelers in the anti-vaccine and pseudoscience world. Get your news from a source that's not owned and controlled by oligarchs. Last April, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. promised that his agency would find the cause of autism "by September." That didn't pan out, but this week he appears to be trying again--by stacking a decades-old committee devoted to "innovations in autism research, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention" with his friends and fellow travelers in the anti-vaccine and pseudoscience world. Much like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which Kennedy overhauled last fall with a full slate of new appointees after firing all the old members, he filled the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC), which was first established in 2000 to help set the federal agenda for autism research, with Kennedy's allies in the anti-vaccine movement.

The best cheap VPN in 2026

Engadget

You'll get the best VPN experience by paying, but prices don't have to be steep. When talking about the best VPNs, I frequently warn about the dangers of trusting free VPNs without verifying them. Although there are a few free VPNs worth recommending, many other free providers are ineffective, malicious or looking to profit off their users (or sometimes all three). Even the best free VPNs work a lot better once you subscribe and access their full service. This can be frustrating if you want to enjoy the benefits of a VPN but don't have the budget for yet another subscription.
