AI Audits Are Coming to HR:
Companies are increasingly adopting automated systems to support, and sometimes even replace, humans in key steps of their hiring and employee management processes. According to Forbes, all Fortune 500 companies report using some form of automation in their HR pipelines. And it's not just large companies that are jumping on this trend: industry surveys have shown that at least 25% of all US-based companies plan to increase their use of automated systems in hiring and talent management over the next few years. From an economic perspective, it's not difficult to understand why companies are embracing automation. Automated systems offer a highly-scalable way to add efficiency to HR, and remove many critical bottlenecks when it comes to identifying and hiring new talent.
Global summit on artificial intelligence kicks off in Riyadh
The second edition of the Global AI Summit kicked off Tuesday morning in the Saudi capital Riyadh, bringing together various stakeholders and academics to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and the Kingdom's contribution to this field. Over 200 speakers representing 90 countries have come together for the global summit that will run until September 15 at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center and under the patronage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Global AI Summit, organized by Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA), will touch on topics such as the impact of AI on the public and private sectors, healthcare, environment, transportation, smart cities and culture among other matters. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the summit, Saudi Minister of Communications & Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha said that Saudi Arabia "has become the largest tech force of coders and data scientists," adding that there are currently more than 70,000 trainees in this field.
Arizona veteran walks thanks to robotic exoskeleton after being wheelchair-bound for a DECADE
U.S. Army veteran Richard Neider is able to walk again after suffering a spinal-cord injury in Iraq thanks to a robotic exoskeleton. Neider, who is the first veteran in Phoenix to receive the ReWalk Personal 6.0 Exoskeleton through a Veterans Affairs program, was unable to walk after being injured in an explosion in Iraq and has spent almost ten years in a wheelchair. The battery-powered, motorized device has sensors that detect when he shifts his weight and then tells Neider's other leg to move - creating a walking motion. The light exoskeleton helps to stabilize his knees and hip. 'I can't ever stop smiling when I'm in it,' the former Army sergeant, who saw his May 2005 injury worsen over time, tells AZFamily.

Ex-Google CEO Says Ukraine Proves Value Of IT In War
Ukraine has been a very effective proving ground for the use of contemporary information technology in war, from satellite dishes to smartphone apps, Eric Schmidt, the former Google chief executive, said Monday. Schmidt, now a US government consultant on artificial intelligence, told reporters after a 36-hour visit to the country that the civilian tech sector has been crucial to Kyiv's defense. The proof came the day after Russian troops invaded on February 24. After a long stall, Ukraine's legislature came together to agree on a crucial step to protect all the government's data from Russian hackers and strikes. "In one day, they had a meeting of the parliament and changed that law... they moved all their data from government servers in Kyiv to the cloud," Schmidt said.

Advances in language modeling are changing how American lawyers and administrators envision the practice of law [13]. In transactional settings, computational language tools are already being used in document review [18], and have illustrated promise for more sophisticated tasks like due diligence [4]. In administrative and civil settings [12, 14], many have identified the potential for computational tools to improve the accessibility of legal services [10, 26, 27, 30], thereby alleviating the United States' long standing access-to-justice crisis [8]. Unsurprisingly, the high risk nature of these tools--and their position in society--has inspired calls for better, law specific evaluation and auditing regimes [11]. The potential for impactful computational legal language tools has been magnified by the development of language Foundation Models (FM)--large scale models trained on massive corpora of text [2].
Continuous Design Control for Machine Learning in Certified Medical Systems

Continuous software engineering has become commonplace in numerous fields. However, in regulating intensive sectors, where additional concerns needs to be taken into account, it is often considered difficult to apply continuous development approaches, such as devops. In this paper, we present an approach for using pull requests as design controls, and apply this approach to machine learning in certified medical systems leveraging model cards, a novel technique developed to add explainability to machine learning systems, as a regulatory audit trail. The approach is demonstrated with an industrial system that we have used previously to show how medical systems can be developed in a continuous fashion.
Multiple View Performers for Shape Completion

We propose the Multiple View Performer (MVP) - a new architecture for 3D shape completion from a series of temporally sequential views. MVP accomplishes this task by using linear-attention Transformers called Performers. Our model allows the current observation of the scene to attend to the previous ones for more accurate infilling. The history of past observations is compressed via the compact associative memory approximating modern continuous Hopfield memory, but crucially of size independent from the history length. We compare our model with several baselines for shape completion over time, demonstrating the generalization gains that MVP provides. To the best of our knowledge, MVP is the first multiple view voxel reconstruction method that does not require registration of multiple depth views and the first causal Transformer based model for 3D shape completion.
