Army seeking AI for targeting, navigation aboard Bradley replacement
The U.S. Army will lean on artificial intelligence to assist two fundamental abilities aboard the forthcoming Bradley infantry fighting vehicle replacement, officials said. Gen. Geoffrey Norman, the director of the Next Generation Combat Vehicles Cross-Functional Team, said both AI-enabled targeting and navigation are "absolutely essential" for the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle, or OMFV. "What we're seeking initially is well within the realm of the feasible. We've demonstrated those capabilities in the field in really rigorous environments," Norman said Oct. 12 at the Association of the U.S. Army annual conference. "But as we look toward the future, and what we want to see downstream, we want to be able to accept maturing technologies."

The White House unveiled its Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights, which identifies five guidelines for the design, use, and deployment of automated and artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools to protect Americans from harm as the use of these technologies continues to grow in multiple industries. The blueprint outlines five core principles: safe and effective systems, algorithmic discrimination protections, data privacy, notice and explanation, and human alternatives, consideration, and fallback. These are intended to serve as practical guidance for the US government, tech companies, researchers, and other stakeholders, but the blueprint is nonbinding and does not constitute regulatory policy. The guidelines apply to AI and automated tools across industries, including healthcare, and are part of a larger conversation around the ethical use of AI. Under the five principles, Americans should be protected from unsafe and ineffective systems; not face discrimination by algorithms, which should be used and designed in an equitable way; and be protected from abusive data practices via built-in safeguards and have agency over how their data is used.

The android Ai-Da, which is claimed to be the world's first ultra-realistic AI robot artist, was questioned by a committee in the British parliament on Tuesday. The politicians from the Communications and Digital Committee in the House of Lords asked the robot – named after the 19th century computer pioneer Ada Lovelace – about the relationship between artificial intelligence, robots, and the arts. "I do not have subjective experiences despite being able to talk about where I am and depend on computer programmes and algorithms who are very not alive. I can still create art," said the robot.
Two unreleased and 'never digitized' NES games are up for auction on eBay
Two extremely rare "unreleased, one-of-a-kind, never-digitized" Nintendo NES games have appeared on eBay, according to a tweet from the Video Game History Foundation's Frank Cifaldi, seen by Kotaku. One of those, called Battlefields of Napoleon, was only ever released in Japan. The other is a cartridge from Rare, and appears to be the demo of one of the few games ever developed for the Nintendo Power Glove. According to the eBay listing for Battlefields of Napoleon, the game was "rescued from a dumpster after The Learning Company acquired Brøderbund in 1998 and subsequently discarded most of the historical assets." The items in the lot include a WATA certified prototype on a development board and two additional CHR ROMs.
