Israel blamed Iran on Wednesday after what it said was a drone strike hit a tanker operated by an Israeli-owned firm carrying gas oil off the coast of Oman. The Pacific Zircon was "hit by a projectile approximately 150 miles off the coast of Oman ... on 15 November," Singapore-based firm Eastern Pacific Shipping which operates the vessel said in a statement, adding that there were no reports of casualties or any leakage of the cargo. "There is some minor damage to the vessel's hull but no spillage of cargo or water ingress," said the company which is owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer -- one of two sons of shipping magnate Sammy Ofer, who died in 2011. The tanker was carrying 42,000 tonnes of gas oil and bound for Buenos Aires, according to Samir Madani, co-founder of website TankerTrackers.com, The Bahrain-based United States Fifth Fleet said it was "aware of the incident".

The Texas Republican sent a letter to Texas county judges indicating that he would deploy the National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety and build a border wall, among other actions. "If the goal is actually to reduce the harm to Texas, then he needs to start using the invasion authority to return people to Mexico," said Ken Cuccinelli, who served as a Department of Homeland Security acting deputy secretary under former President Trump.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense (MOD) has shared footage of what appeared to be an air defense system destroying an object amid reports that Ukraine was able to shoot down more than 70 Russian cruise missiles in one day. Russian forces launched about 100 missiles on Ukraine Tuesday, Ukrinform reported, citing Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson Yuriy Ignat. Russia's previous heaviest attack was on Oct. 10, which involved 84 projectiles. Ukrainian air defenses were able to destroy 73 of the Russian cruise missiles, 10 Iranian-made Shahed 131 or 136 drones as well as one Orion unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) during the most recent bombardment. "This is how our air defenses shot down 73 cruise missiles today," the MOD said in a post that included footage of what appeared to be an air defense system destroying an object.

Tuvalu's foreign minister, Simon Kofe, told the COP27 climate summit yesterday that Tuvalu would look to the metaverse to preserve its culture and history. With global temperatures expected to rise as much as 2.8 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, the Pacific island nation is particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels. At last year's COP26 summit, Kofe addressed the conference while standing knee-deep in seawater to highlight the climate change threat. Climate scientists anticipate the entire country will be underwater by the end of the 21st century. Addressing the climate summit, Kofe said: "As our land disappears, we have no choice but to become the world's first digital nation. Our land, our ocean, our culture are the most precious assets of our people. And to keep them safe from harm, no matter what happens in the physical world, we'll move them to the cloud."

The number of people waiting for cancer treatment in the UK has doubled since 2018, the number of people waiting for more than 62 days from referral to treatment (62 days being the maximum target wait time from the NHS, from urgent cancer referral to treatment being started) has risen to over 69,000. This is resulting in patients dying from long delays between diagnosis and treatment.
