It can't be real, Candace Buckner wrote in a headline.
US interest rates raised for first time in three years
To play this video you need to enable JavaScript in your browser. US interest rates have been raised for the first time in more than three years and could be increased further in a bid to slow rising prices. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said the move was because inflation is too high and has been for too long, adding that it was a sober and responsible decision. However, Trump said rates should be 1%, or less, because we are the Best Credit in the World - BY FAR. Higher interest rates make borrowing more expensive for people wanting to secure loans, mortgages, and credit cards, but can lead to better returns on savings.
Washington Won't Be Regulating AI Anytime Soon
Washington Won't Be Regulating AI Anytime Soon Even with mounting concerns about AI models going rogue, legislation appears unlikely, and the White House is outright opposed to oversight. For weeks, Washington has been abuzz with talk of needing to push through some sort of AI regulation amid mounting concerns about the risks of highly capable frontier AI models going rogue. But there is no reason to think any one measure can win the support of the White House, where officials have paused work on creating a FINRA-style regulatory body after President Donald Trump soured on the idea, or of Capitol Hill, where lawmakers have competing proposals that lack the votes to pass. White House aides initially started sketching out a framework for an AI oversight agency connected to the administration soon after Google DeepMind's cofounder Demis Hassabis floated the idea in a July 14 essay and in briefings to senior officials, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Treasury Department and the White House's Office of Science and Technology Policy envisioned a body where leading AI labs would self-regulate the development of frontier models, and they put together a preliminary draft to see what it could look like if executed. But when a chorus of tech executives --including Trump's former AI czar David Sacks and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg--learned of the effort, they one by one called Trump in August to express their opposition.

Efforts underway for Zelenskyy-Trump meeting at UN next week
Efforts are underway to organise a "meaningful" meeting between United States President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the United Nations General Assembly next week. Ukrainian and US diplomatic teams are "actively" working to set up a meeting between Zelenskyy and Trump at the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York, according to press briefing by Ukraine's Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi. Tykhyi said Zelenskyy's visit will include dozens of bilateral negotiations and engagements with US legislators, business leaders and the Ukrainian community in the US. Zelenskyy and Trump last met at the White House in July in a much-anticipated encounter after a heated 2025 televised meeting at the Oval Office ended abruptly, with US Vice President JD Vance calling Zelenskyy "disrespectful" for not thanking the US for its support for Ukraine. As Ukrainian officials were preparing for the UN visit, a Russian drone strike on a bus killed at least five people and injured seven others on Wednesday in the city of Nikopol near the southern Ukraine front line.
US House votes to hold billionaire Epstein associate Leon Black in contempt
The US House of Representatives has agreed to hold billionaire Leon Black in contempt of Congress for defying a legal summons related to its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Black, who had business ties to Epstein, did not comply with a subpoena ordering him to appear before the House Oversight Committee earlier this month and share documents related to Epstein. Lawyers for Black, who has sued over the summons, called the contempt move outrageous. After passage of the measure holding Black in contempt, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said: No-one is above the law. We will continue to seek transparency for the American people and justice for survivors.
