Donald Trump Is Fairy-Godmothering AI

The Atlantic - Technology

Earlier today, Donald Trump unveiled his administration's "AI Action Plan"--a document that details, in 23 pages, the president's "vision of global AI dominance" and offers a road map for America to achieve it. AI companies such as OpenAI and Nvidia must be allowed to move as fast as they can. As the White House officials Michael Kratsios, David Sacks, and Marco Rubio wrote in the plan's introduction, "Simply put, we need to'Build, Baby, Build!'" The action plan is the direct result of an executive order, signed by Trump in the first week of his second term, that directed the federal government to produce a plan to "enhance America's global AI dominance." For months, the Trump administration solicited input from AI firms, civil-society groups, and everyday citizens.

Trump Says He's 'Getting Rid of Woke' and Dismisses Copyright Concerns in AI Policy Speech

WIRED

"You can't be expected to have a successful AI program when every single article, book or anything else that you've read or studied, you're supposed to pay for," Trump said. "We appreciate that, but just can't do it-- because it's not doable." The president also doubled down on his anti-woke rhetoric in his speech. "We are getting rid of woke," he said on Wednesday. "The American people do not want woke Marxist lunacy in the AI models." The remarks came during a keynote speech at a summit hosted by the All-In Podcast and the Hill & Valley Forum.

Tesla has reported its biggest decline in quarterly revenue in more than a decade as CEO Elon Musk's political activity weighs on the electric carmaker brand's reputation. Revenue fell to 22.5bn for the April-June quarter from 25.5bn a year earlier, according to its earnings report, which Tesla released after the closing bell on Wall Street. Tesla attributed the revenue dip to a decline in vehicle deliveries.

Trump administration unveils wide ranging AI action plan

Al Jazeera

The administration of United States President Donald Trump has unveiled its new artificial intelligence action plan, which includes a strategy it says will boost the US standing in AI as it competes with China for dominance in the rapidly growing sector. The White House released the 25-page "America's AI Action Plan" on Wednesday. It includes 90 different policy proposals that the administration says will increase AI tools for allies around the globe. It will also promote production of new data centres around the US. It will scrap federal regulations that "hinder AI development", although it is not clear which regulations are in question.

Trump Unveils Plan to Win AI 'Race' by Stripping Away Regulations

TIME - Tech

The 28-page strategy, called "Winning the Race: America's AI Action Plan," centers on three "pillars": accelerating AI innovation, building AI infrastructure in the U.S., and establishing the U.S. as a leader in AI globally. It recommends dozens of actions for the federal government to take across those pillars over the next few months, including reducing the number of environmental regulations imposed on data centers and only contracting with AI developers deemed free from "ideological bias." Trump has previously rolled back guardrails that President Biden had put on AI and made efforts to accelerate development of the technology since returning to the White House. Just hours after his inauguration, he rescinded an Executive Order Biden issued in 2023 aimed at establishing safety standards for AI's development and use. Days later, he signed an Executive Order focused on revoking "certain existing AI policies and directives that act as barriers to American AI innovation, clearing a path for the United States to act decisively to retain global leadership in artificial intelligence."

Details of Trump's highly anticipated AI plan revealed by White House ahead of major speech

FOX News

The Trump administration revealed details of its highly anticipated artificial intelligence plan of action ahead of President Donald Trump's major speech later on Wednesday, which is expected to also include the president signing at least one executive order related to the U.S.' artificial intelligence race. Administration leaders, including White House Office of Science and Technology policy director Michael Kratsios and AI and crypto czar David Sacks, held a background call with the media Wednesday morning and outlined a three-pillar plan of action for artificial intelligence focused on American workers, free speech and protecting U.S.-built technologies. "We want to center America's workers, and make sure they benefit from AI," Sacks said on the call while describing the three pillars. "The second is that we believe that AI systems should be free of ideological bias and not be designed to pursue socially engineered agendas," Sacks said. "And so we have a number of proposals there on how to make sure that AI remains truth-seeking and trustworthy. And then the third principle that cuts across the pillars is that we believe we have to prevent our advanced technologies from being misused or stolen by malicious actors. And we also have to monitor for emerging and unforeseen risks from AI." President Donald Trump is expected to deliver a major speech focused on artificial intelligence on July 23, 2025.

EU steps up air defences for Ukraine and sanctions for Russia

Al Jazeera

Ukraine's European allies marshalled resources this week to provide the besieged country with air defences against drones and ballistic missiles. The European Union also announced an 18th round of sanctions designed to sever all remaining Russian energy imports, and proposed a fivefold increase in the common defence budget to boost EU defence research and procurement. European leaders convinced the United States to symbolically rejoin the 52-nation Ukraine Defence Contact Group coordinating defence donations, but not as a donor. It was the first such meeting attended by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth since February, when he told EU members that pushing Russia out of Ukraine's internationally recognised territory was unrealistic. As the ideological chasm between the EU and the US over Ukraine widened, Russia continued to pound Ukrainian defenders, making a few inroads.

Trump's AI Action Plan Is a Crusade Against 'Bias'--and Regulation

WIRED

On Wednesday, the Trump Administration unveiled its new artificial intelligence action plan geared at keeping US efforts competitive with China. With over 90 policies recommended, it's a wide-ranging document that, if followed, would give Silicon Valley's most powerful companies even more leeway to grow. "We believe we're in an AI race," White House AI czar David Sacks said on a call ahead of the action plan's release. "We want the United States to win that race." The Office of Science and Technology Policy drafted the plan, which focuses on three key "pillars" for AI strategy: accelerating AI innovation, building infrastructure, and leading international diplomacy and security.

The Download: what's next for AI agents, and how Trump protects US tech companies overseas

MIT Technology Review

AI agents is a buzzy term that essentially refers to AI models and algorithms that can not only provide you with information, but take actions on your behalf. Companies like OpenAI and Anthropic have launched'agentic' products that can do things for you like making bookings, filling in forms, and collaborating with you on coding projects. On a LinkedIn Live event yesterday our editor-in-chief Mat Honan, senior editor for AI Will Douglas Heaven, and senior AI reporter Grace Huckins discussed what's exciting about agents and where the technology will go next, but also its limitations, and the risks that currently come with adopting it. Check out what they had to say! And if you're interested in learning more about AI agents, read our stories: Are we ready to hand AI agents the keys?
