Chance-Constrained Sampling-Based MPC for Collision Avoidance in Uncertain Dynamic Environments

Navigating safely in dynamic and uncertain environments is challenging due to uncertainties in perception and motion. This letter presents C2U-MPPI, a robust sampling-based Model Predictive Control (MPC) framework that addresses these challenges by leveraging the Unscented Model Predictive Path Integral (U-MPPI) control strategy with integrated probabilistic chance constraints, ensuring more reliable and efficient navigation under uncertainty. Unlike gradient-based MPC methods, our approach (i) avoids linearization of system dynamics and directly applies non-convex and nonlinear chance constraints, enabling more accurate and flexible optimization, and (ii) enhances computational efficiency by reformulating probabilistic constraints into a deterministic form and employing a layered dynamic obstacle representation, enabling real-time handling of multiple obstacles. Extensive experiments in simulated and real-world human-shared environments validate the effectiveness of our algorithm against baseline methods, showcasing its capability to generate feasible trajectories and control inputs that adhere to system dynamics and constraints in dynamic settings, enabled by unscented-based sampling strategy and risk-sensitive trajectory evaluation. Dynamic Portfolio Optimization via Augmented DDPG with Quantum Price Levels-Based Trading Strategy

With the development of deep learning, Dynamic Portfolio Optimization (DPO) problem has received a lot of attention in recent years, not only in the field of finance but also in the field of deep learning. Some advanced research in recent years has proposed the application of Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) to the DPO problem, which demonstrated to be more advantageous than supervised learning in solving the DPO problem. However, there are still certain unsolved issues: 1) DRL algorithms usually have the problems of slow learning speed and high sample complexity, which is especially problematic when dealing with complex financial data. 2) researchers use DRL simply for the purpose of obtaining high returns, but pay little attention to the problem of risk control and trading strategy, which will affect the stability of model returns. In order to address these issues, in this study we revamped the intrinsic structure of the model based on the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) and proposed the Augmented DDPG model. Besides, we also proposed an innovative risk control strategy based on Quantum Price Levels (QPLs) derived from Quantum Finance Theory (QFT). Our experimental results revealed that our model has better profitability as well as risk control ability with less sample complexity in the DPO problem compared to the baseline models.


Physics-Informed Machine Learning for Microscale Drying of Plant-Based Foods: A Systematic Review of Computational Models and Experimental Insights

This review examines the current state of research on microscale cellular changes during the drying of plant-based food materials (PBFM), with particular emphasis on computational modelling approaches. The review addresses the critical need for advanced computational methods in microscale investigations. We systematically analyse experimental studies in PBFM drying, highlighting their contributions and limitations in capturing cellular-level phenomena, including challenges in data acquisition and measurement accuracy under varying drying conditions. The evolution of computational models for microstructural investigations is thoroughly examined, from traditional numerical methods to contemporary state-of-the-art approaches, with specific focus on their ability to handle the complex, nonlinear properties of plant cellular materials. Special attention is given to the emergence of data-driven models and their limitations in predicting microscale cellular behaviour during PBFM drying, particularly addressing challenges in dataset acquisition and model generalization. The review provides an in-depth analysis of Physics-Informed Machine Learning (PIML) frameworks, examining their theoretical foundations, current applications in related fields, and unique advantages in combining physical principles with neural network architectures. Through this comprehensive assessment, we identify critical gaps in existing methodologies, evaluate the trade-offs between different modelling approaches, and provide insights into future research directions for improving our understanding of cellular-level transformations during PBFM drying processes. The review concludes with recommendations for integrating experimental and computational approaches to advance the field of food preservation technology.


A User's Guide to $\texttt{KSig}$: GPU-Accelerated Computation of the Signature Kernel

The signature kernel is a positive definite kernel for sequential and temporal data that has become increasingly popular in machine learning applications due to powerful theoretical guarantees, strong empirical performance, and recently introduced various scalable variations. In this chapter, we give a short introduction to $\texttt{KSig}$, a $\texttt{Scikit-Learn}$ compatible Python package that implements various GPU-accelerated algorithms for computing signature kernels, and performing downstream learning tasks. We also introduce a new algorithm based on tensor sketches which gives strong performance compared to existing algorithms. The package is available at https://github.com/tgcsaba/ksig.


Towards Lightweight Time Series Forecasting: a Patch-wise Transformer with Weak Data Enriching

Patch-wise Transformer based time series forecasting achieves superior accuracy. However, this superiority relies heavily on intricate model design with massive parameters, rendering both training and inference expensive, thus preventing their deployments on edge devices with limited resources and low latency requirements. In addition, existing methods often work in an autoregressive manner, which take into account only historical values, but ignore valuable, easy-to-obtain context information, such as weather forecasts, date and time of day. To contend with the two limitations, we propose LiPFormer, a novel Lightweight Patch-wise Transformer with weak data enriching. First, to simplify the Transformer backbone, LiPFormer employs a novel lightweight cross-patch attention and a linear transformation-based attention to eliminate Layer Normalization and Feed Forward Network, two heavy components in existing Transformers. Second, we propose a lightweight, weak data enriching module to provide additional, valuable weak supervision to the training. It enhances forecasting accuracy without significantly increasing model complexity as it does not involve expensive, human-labeling but using easily accessible context information. This facilitates the weak data enriching to plug-and-play on existing models. Extensive experiments on nine benchmark time series datasets demonstrate that LiPFormer outperforms state-of-the-art methods in accuracy, while significantly reducing parameter scale, training duration, and GPU memory usage. Deployment on an edge device reveals that LiPFormer takes only 1/3 inference time compared to classic Transformers. In addition, we demonstrate that the weak data enriching can integrate seamlessly into various Transformer based models to enhance their accuracy, suggesting its generality.


Ensuring Truthfulness in Distributed Aggregative Optimization

--Distributed aggregative optimization methods are gaining increased traction due to their ability to address cooperative control and optimization problems, where the objective function of each agent depends not only on its own decision variable but also on the aggregation of other agents' decision variables. Nevertheless, existing distributed aggregative optimization methods implicitly assume all agents to be truthful in information sharing, which can be unrealistic in real-world scenarios, where agents may act selfishly or strategically. In fact, an opportunistic agent may deceptively share false information in its own favor to minimize its own loss, which, however, will compromise the network-level global performance. T o solve this issue, we propose a new distributed aggregative optimization algorithm that can ensure truthfulness of agents and convergence performance. T o the best of our knowledge, this is the first algorithm that ensures truthfulness in a fully distributed setting, where no "centralized" aggregator exists to collect private information/decision variables from participating agents. We systematically characterize the convergence rate of our algorithm under nonconvex/convex/strongly convex objective functions, which generalizes existing distributed aggregative optimization results that only focus on convex objective functions. We also rigorously quantify the tradeoff between convergence performance and the level of enabled truthfulness under different convexity conditions. Numerical simulations using distributed charging of electric vehicles confirm the efficacy of our algorithm. Recently, there has been a surge of interest in distributed optimization which underpins numerous applications in cooperative control [1], [2], signal processing [3], and machine learning [4]. In distributed optimization, a group of agents cooperatively learns a common decision variable that minimizes a global objective function that is the sum of individual agents' objective functions. 2 OLMo 2 Furious

We present OLMo 2, the next generation of our fully open language models. OLMo 2 includes dense autoregressive models with improved architecture and training recipe, pretraining data mixtures, and instruction tuning recipes. Our modified model architecture and training recipe achieve both better training stability and improved per-token efficiency. Our updated pretraining data mixture introduces a new, specialized data mix called Dolmino Mix 1124, which significantly improves model capabilities across many downstream task benchmarks when introduced via late-stage curriculum training (i.e. specialized data during the annealing phase of pretraining). Finally, we incorporate best practices from T\"ulu 3 to develop OLMo 2-Instruct, focusing on permissive data and extending our final-stage reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR). Our OLMo 2 base models sit at the Pareto frontier of performance to compute, often matching or outperforming open-weight only models like Llama 3.1 and Qwen 2.5 while using fewer FLOPs and with fully transparent training data, code, and recipe. Our fully open OLMo 2-Instruct models are competitive with or surpassing open-weight only models of comparable size, including Qwen 2.5, Llama 3.1 and Gemma 2. We release all OLMo 2 artifacts openly -- models at 7B and 13B scales, both pretrained and post-trained, including their full training data, training code and recipes, training logs and thousands of intermediate checkpoints. The final instruction model is available on the Ai2 Playground as a free research demo.


Electricity Price Prediction Using Multi-Kernel Gaussian Process Regression Combined with Kernel-Based Support Vector Regression

This paper presents a new hybrid model for predicting German electricity prices. The algorithm is based on combining Gaussian Process Regression (GPR) and Support Vector Regression (SVR). While GPR is a competent model for learning the stochastic pattern within the data and interpolation, its performance for out-of-sample data is not very promising. By choosing a suitable data-dependent covariance function, we can enhance the performance of GPR for the tested German hourly power prices. However, since the out-of-sample prediction depends on the training data, the prediction is vulnerable to noise and outliers. To overcome this issue, a separate prediction is made using SVR, which applies margin-based optimization, having an advantage in dealing with non-linear processes and outliers, since only certain necessary points (support vectors) in the training data are responsible for regression. Both individual predictions are later combined using the performance-based weight assignment method. A test on historic German power prices shows that this approach outperforms its chosen benchmarks such as the autoregressive exogenous model, the naive approach, as well as the long short-term memory approach of prediction.


Multiplayer Federated Learning: Reaching Equilibrium with Less Communication

Federated Learning (FL) has emerged as a powerful collaborative learning paradigm where multiple clients jointly train a machine learning model without sharing their local data. In the classical FL setting, a central server coordinates multiple clients (e.g., mobile devices, edge devices) to collaboratively learn a shared global model without exchanging their own training data [48, 54, 79, 64]. In this scenario, each client performs local computations on its private data and periodically communicates model updates to the server, which aggregates them to update the global model. This collaborative approach has been successfully applied in various domains, including natural language processing [69, 43], computer vision [70, 63], and healthcare [4, 116]. Despite their success, traditional FL frameworks rely on the key assumption that all participants are fully cooperative and share aligned objectives, collectively working towards optimizing the performance of a shared global model (e.g., minimizing the average of individual loss functions). This assumption overlooks situations where participants have individual objectives, or competitive interests that may not align with the collective goal. Diverse examples of such scenarios have been extensively considered in the game theory literature, including Cournot competition in economics [2], optical networks [91], electricity markets [98], energy consumption control in smart grid [120], or mobile robot control [49]. Despite their relevance, these applications have yet to be associated with FL, presenting an unexplored opportunity to bridge game theory and FL for more robust and realistic frameworks.


FLAVARS: A Multimodal Foundational Language and Vision Alignment Model for Remote Sensing

Remote sensing imagery is dense with objects and contextual visual information. There is a recent trend to combine paired satellite images and text captions for pretraining performant encoders for downstream tasks. However, while contrastive image-text methods like CLIP enable vision-language alignment and zero-shot classification ability, vision-only downstream performance tends to degrade compared to image-only pretraining, such as MAE. In this paper, we propose FLAVARS, a pretraining method that combines the best of both contrastive learning and masked modeling, along with geospatial alignment via contrastive location encoding. We find that FLAVARS significantly outperforms a baseline of SkyCLIP for vision-only tasks such as KNN classification and semantic segmentation, +6\% mIOU on SpaceNet1, while retaining the ability to perform zero-shot classification, unlike MAE pretrained methods.
